Game theme & Music and SFX generation

Hi!

This is my first JAM, and I want to create a new game, but I have some questions:

- Can I choose any game theme to create? Anything, like a Super Mario Bros, a shoot-em-up or a puzzle game, or there will be instructions about what kind of game should we write?
- Anyone can reccomend me some website or application to create NES-like music and SFX? I suppose that I can use "modern" music and microphone-recorded SFX, but real NES used "electronic" music and simple SFX.

Thank you for your help! :)

I know i'm not the OP, but I still found this very useful. Thanks for sharing this!

There won't be any theme, you just have to make a game with the NES resolution and color palette. Which means that you can make pretty much anything as long as you follow those rules.

But we can use the full NES color palette at the same time, or should we limit to 3 colors per sprite, and using only 4 palettes of 4 colors at once (so, only 16 colors at screen)?

Anyway, I'm not a great pixel artist, so I'll restrict myself to 16 (or less!) colors, and 8x8 sprites ;)

Yup, you can use all of them at the same time.

A great website for creating 8-bit sounding sfx is bfxr. http://www.bfxr.net/

I use it all the time!
