Great use of glow effects!   All those streaks for hot light make a nice contrast with the cold, desolate setting.

Definitely a challenge managing the horde, especially with the slow reload on the rifle, but I actually found that helped elevate the game.   It made it more than just a routine shooter.   I found myself thinking a lot about how to lead the enemies with the flare gun and exactly when and how to maximize the impact of my rifle shots.

Fun story too.  I like the surly pilot, although despite everything he said, I'd still love to have gotten out there and explored that castle a bit.  :)

Glad you liked it! And who knows, maybe come next jam, we'll see a new chapter to the story... :D

I had difficulty sometimes taking down the enemies with the flare gun.
I tried aiming in front of them and behind but either some enemies have a ton of health or the hits not registering corectly?

Developer

All enemies have the same health, if the flare bullet didn't vanish then the hit didn't register. Indeed i wish i could have polished up the detection code more but there was no time...

Great game! The idea is pretty cool. I like how you added a story line in such a simple game and it works perfectly.  As I said, the idea is simple but it's fun, and you could add other weapons, items, different enemies, etc. pretty cool. You could expand it if you wanted. I didn't pass all the game though, but played for several minutes. The sound was good, but I didn't hear any music, only the environment background sound, which was pretty cool. I enjoyed it very much. I like that you used Godot! Great job, congratulations!

Nice take on the theme.  I didn't get how the rifle cooldown works.  Seems like there's a timer but unclear when it has been reloaded?

Developer

Hello, thanks for the comment. There's an audio alert for its reload being finished - 4 "ticks" quickly play. Two minor quirks are that the rifle begins the level as loaded so you don't hear them in the beginning, and since your friend is the one reloading, the timer doesn't start until you put the rifle down.

I can see the audio cue not being very clear, as there are many other sounds playing or people's settings may be low. Would you have any suggestions for improving that feedback on a post-jam update?

Maybe a visual cue could help.  Looks like you're going for minimal UI which I like and I think it enhances the experience.  That said maybe the crosshair could turn into a loading bar when you have the rifle selected and it's still reloading, or changes color to red when it's not ready, or a combination of the two?
