Things I liked:

The gameplay:

The attack mechanic was very cool, and very engaging once I understood it.

The graphics:

You really made Emcee Flesher's artwork shine.

The level design:

The map was really well made, and really made me feel like I was on an elevated research station.

The premise:

The premise was very on theme and was a really cool idea.

Things I disliked:

The movement:

The movement was very fast, which made avoiding accidentally falling off an edge very hard, and it also hurt the scary feel of the game.

Things that you could do to improve the game:

Add some ambience:

Adding some background sounds could really up the creepy factor. Groaning metal as the station heats up, creepy paulstretches, ect.

Slowing down walking speed:

Slowing down walking speed to a labored walk and adding some heavy footstep sfx could really boost the claustrophobic feel.

Synopsis:

Very cool game. The feel was very engaging, and the gameplay was really fun.

Thanks for your entry. :)

Thank you very much for that very thorough review, and I’m glad you enjoyed the game! You are absolutely right about the soundscape. There were a number of actual in-game elements I never got the time to find a suitable sound for, let alone time to fill out the ambient sounds. That would definitely need improvement! I can definitely see the movement being an issue as well. I probably intended to go back and adjust that, but, over the development time, I got so used to it myself and other issues piled up, I just forgot to give it a tweaking. I think, if I were to go back and fix things, there would be both a walk and run speed… but, also, I’d put “railing” on most of the outdoor platforms :)

Thank you very much for playing!!

Very interesting idea which also fits the theme of the jam.  The game manages to tense the player despite the cute sprites. Your game is  good at creating a scary atmosphere of an abandoned space station with lighting effects and the cool heat wave shader. I don't like the way aliens attack you, i would prefer that they pounce at you or just dash at you and attack. Falling of the ledges also didn't make much sense to me in this game but i understand that you wanted to add a challenge to the game so i respect that. Also i got stuck at some point in the game, i think i need some keycard or somethinmg but i couldn't find it.  Overall it's a pretty good game for a jam. Good job!!

Thank you very much for playing! I’m sorry you got stuck. The falling off the ledge thing… the intent was you were on a base on a planet of lava and walking off those platforms would have you fall into the lava below. I’m finding, though, that did not quite translate for others like I had thought it would. Ah well… maybe next time, lol.

I am really glad you enjoyed the game, even with it’s flaws. Thank you again!

Very impressive entry! Falling off of the map is super punishing and I do wish you could toggle between walk speeds as I would frequently just fall off due to the fast walk speed and lighting. It was also a little awkward at first figurine out if I was close enough to interact with a console. Combat is neat and I enjoyed the telegraphing you put into the enemy attacks. I am not sure what one of the pickups did but other than that probably one of the cooles games I have seen submitted yet.

Thank you very much for playing and I’m glad you enjoyed the game!! I’m not sure why I didn’t put in a walking ability. I might have, but immediately got distracted with another piece and totally forgot! As for the pick-ups. One is armor/health and the other is “ammo”… I intended that people would just hold down the attack button, not spam it (don’t know why I felt this), so, the intent was, you’d fire much more slowly without ammo, and you’d be able to fire much faster with it (hence the pickups). In hind sight, the gun issue is strange. I knew you could spam the weapon (something I remember offhandedly thinking needed to be fixed), but I just thought nobody would notice. Lol… ahh well.

Again, thanks very much for playing!

This was a really fun experience! I think the menu and GUI were done very well - however, more visual indication of what was happening and what consoles were etc. would have been nice.

I also think the firing animation should have been more useful and show where the bullets were going (though that was done slightly by the alien damaging animation) - however, that and other small fixes cannot be done in a jam-like environment with such a short time. Given the time of the jam - this was very impressive!

Thank you very much for playing! I’m glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, there are a lot of little things I would have liked to have fixed up but just didn’t get the time… like the consoles (especially the pair in the first level).

This is one of the better jam submissions I've seen on Itch lately. It is still very rough around the edges, but given its large scope and short deadline, that can be pardoned.

Hey, thank you very much for playing!! I’m glad you liked it! Yeah, there were a number of small mechanics that either need to be fixed or I just didn’t get time for. Such is jam life :D

Cool game!

I liked all the shaders, but I had to disable the heat shader in settings because it was making the game lag. I enjoyed spamming the left mouse button shooting aliens. Tried holding it, but it seemed to shoot a lot slower (about 1–2 shots per second).

The fast movement in combination with being able to fall was frustrating, but I guess that's part of the challenge. The spinning earth on the title screen was interesting! I didn't get what the pickups did (except for armor; found that out after paying more attention to the health bar), but figured they did something good (perhaps more visual feedback would help?). The heat damaging the player slowly gave an intense feeling to the game.

Thanks for submitting the game!

Thank you very much for playing! I’m glad you enjoyed it! Yes, the slow firing rate was intentional. I knew there was a glitch about spamming the attack button, but never had time to go back and fix it. The ammo pickups give you a much faster firing rate while only needing to hold down the attack button instead of constantly pressing it.

Again, thank you very much for playing!
