Description
This soundtrack is intended for a point-and-click game in the style of Myst based on the art of Salvador Dali. The first track "The Persistence of Memory" is meant to be played in a setting based on the Dali painting of the same title. The second track is meant to be played in a setting based on the Dali painting "The Sacrament of the Last Supper" and could also be used during end credits or a triumphant happy ending. I used the regional anthem of Catalonia, Dali's homeland, as a motif in both pieces. These pieces were made using Microsoft StaffPad.
Theme:
How does it fit the theme?
The painting "The Persistence of Memory" is famous for its motif of melting clocks. Both pieces use a clocklike pizzicato as a background.

The Persistence of Memory: This track has a dirge-like quality to it that gives a somber feeling. The low flute sounds like an interrupting cuckoo clock that doesn’t quite fit in the harmonic minor sound you create - creative choice.
The Sacrament of the Last Supper: This track sounds more content and consonant. The high pizzicato strings work well to represent a ticking clock. My favorite part of this track (other than the beautiful melody) is the suspended notes held over after the chord changes - this feels quite classical and fits the mood of the piece well. Overall these are two very different, yet inherently connected pieces. I think it is very creative that you based them off of artwork by a famous painter. Good job and thank your for sharing!
This is some really cool stuff, and I like the concept of it all revolving around Dali, going as far to use his country's anthem (such a great idea!). Awesome work!
The Persistence of Memory: this pensive little flute melody against the simple bassline and uncertain string melody establishes a rather uncertain mood. The entrance of the other winds suddenly makes us realize we are in 6/8, not 4/4-- a nice touch. At some point, the repetitive nature of the flute motif and the plucked bass got reduntant in my ear-- or perhaps this was intentional, to warp our perception of time? Repetition used in this fashion (i.e. minimalism) can be very effective if used intentionally. Here I wasn't sure how intentional it was, but this was still a lovely opening piece.
The Sacrament of the Last Supper: as a violinist, my fingers are killing me just thinking of this very high, very long pizzicato passage! Luckily the MIDI violinists don't complain ;) this track is simple and pleasant, certainly a good conclusion track. I think I hear a classic hymnal melody intertwined as well! I actually love stuff like this.
Nice work, keep writing!
Pleasant music that would perfectly suit a point and click type adventure - sitting contemplatively in the background without intruding or making itself overbearing. Nicely done.
Reminds me the works of Prokofiev. Interesting!
