Description
The first track and main theme of the game, "Time for Seconds?" is an ode to old school racing games you'd play on your PS2. With it's breakbeat patterns and breakneck speed, it sets the pace for the racing game of your lifetime, where you'll be cutting edges and zipping through time. Made solely in Ableton, this track consists of a mix of midi and sampling from Ableton's free to use samples.

The second track and shop theme of the game, "Time for Seconds?" takes you to the repair shop post race where you'll be fixing cars and jamming to some 80's and 90's hip hop. With it's clean hip hop drum beat and old school horn line and ad-libbing, you won't want to leave. Made solely in Ableton, this track consists of just sampling and remixing from Ableton's free to use samples and was heavily inspired by the Beastie Boys, Vanilla Ice, and Joey Valence.

Message from the artist:
Hi! Hope you enjoy these themes and this time travel racing game concept, "Time for Seconds?"

Theme:

Tick Tock...

How does it fit the theme?
The title and cover art are a bit of a pun asking "time for seconds?" and having clocks on a plate. The idea of the game is also a time/time travel racing game where power ups change how time is felt for the player.

Really cool breaks and melodies overall! With the little bed of swirling pads in the background in the Main Theme, this OST suits perfectly the game concepts you were going for. Really nice job!

Developer

Thank you! I just layered those pads to see how it sounded and it came out great.

Seems like we both went rather percussion heavy for our submissions! We even both have racing games, haha. :D

I believe I've stumbled upon your page every jam I've partook in now, and I definitely notice improvement! Here you have something unique, with a clear mix, and some fun variation. You captured time travelling well, first track feels like actually racing through a time portal.

Let's keep making music, and improving ever further and further, you and me both! :)

Developer

Thank you so much! I'm happy to hear from someone besides myself that I'm actually improving, so thank you! :)

Ah, this brought me back to that PS era :D

Just out of curiosity, did you want some music for the levels themselves also?

Developer

Thank you, I'm happy I caught that vibe! I wish I had more time for level tracks and other things but this jam was in between 2 trips so I didn't have a whole lot of time for it, but I'm really happy with how it turned out either way.

I really enjoyed these tracks. Sorry that we didn’t end up working together on vocals, maybe next time!

Loving the the percussion, scratches, and edits in the shop theme, definitely a standout track for me from the jam!

Developer

Thank you! I hope we can work together for a future jam, maybe when I have more time for one lol.

Main Theme: Loving this pad and break combo. Chord choices give a sense of mystery.

Shop Theme: GROOVY, love the samples. This would fit perfectly in an older racing game.

Nice work!

Developer

Thank you so much! I wasn't totally sure about the chord choices for the first track at first, but I'm happy a lot of people like it!

I imagined you are racing in either a professional or dreamy environment but then you stop by the shop and it's just a hippy with a big afro fixing your Formula 1 lmao.

Developer

Lol, that's exactly what I had in mind!

I have never owned a playstation but I'm 100%  sure this is a game that's on there. I think you capture the 90s hip hop vibes amazingly (love the cover image btw). I think some parts in the shop theme are a bit loud, mainly some of the stabs, but its for sure one of my favourite tracks thus far!

Developer

Thank you so much! I went for an album cover-esque thing for the cover image and it turned out better than I expected honestly. I definitely see what you mean about the stabs; thanks for the feedback!

I would totally vibe to those tracks in an old-school looking car game. Reminded me of the amazing Need for Speed High Stakes soundtrack a bit. Keep up the great work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much, that's what I was going for!

Nice Drum N Bass style track, totally 90s. A very engaging soundtrack :D

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I'm a sucker for drum n bass/breakbeat so I always try to sneak them in these jams lol.

Wow that first track goes SUPER hard! You did a great job on the beats :) For whatever reason, the second track threw me back to the Wii Sports era of my life (they had some real bops back then lol).

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! I really was focusing on the drums in this jam, so I'm happy they turned out good.
