Description
Upon seeing the image prompt, I imagined the woman in the water to be the girl's mother. I wanted to explore this relationship more in the music and worked on crafting a story that would allow me to expand on this. In my own story, the girl makes a promise on the beach with her mother that they would one day explore the sea together. However, her mother passes away shortly after due to illness. This leads the girl to be unable to cope with her mother's passing. She runs back to the beach where they first made the promise and as she is crying, a storm blows in and the water violently pulls her into the ocean. She awakes in a village under the water where she meets these water people, and one of them looks like her mother... Throughout the game, she learns to accept her mother's passing. The story is told through a visual novel game. The player will navigate through the story using a standard visual novel control scheme (i.e mouse).

The first track "Promise On the Beach" would play when the girl and her mother are making their promise together on the beach. I wanted to create a soundscape that was evocative of the orange sun setting across the horizon, with a small buildup as they say their promises to each other.

The second track "Wonders of the Ocean" is the track that is mostly closely related to the image prompt given as the mood and atmosphere is directly inspired from the visuals of the image. It definitey feels very joyous and that is exactly what I tried to reflect in this track.

The last track "Acceptance" serves as the emotional climax of the story and thus is more emotionally charged than the rest of the track. At this point in the story, the girl has started to accept the passing of her mother and her life starts to move forward once again.

Everything was made in Cubase and all images used in my YouTube videos was taken by me during my trip to Japan!

Amazing soundtrack, it manages to create atmosphere really well. I loved all the songs (the first one is my favorite), great work!

Great work! These were a delight to listen to.

Wonders of the Ocean has such an interesting intro - starting simple and then blowing out into a full arrangement but without sounding too busy. A lot of nice melodies playing off one another here and changing instruments to keep things progressing forward. Nice orchestration beneath it all, too. Good use of articulations throughout.

Acceptance is gorgeous off the bat - jazzy piano in no rush to reveal itself. Gradually plods along with some nice counter-melodies weaving in and out as other instruments begin to gently come to fruition. A slight lull just before the ending before the massive crescendo into full orchestration. I almost wish that the main section of this part went on for another few bars just to bask in it, but it is wonderful all the same. A quick rise into a nice long decrescendo.

The vocal elements of Promise on the Beach are great - an element not utilized in enough submissions, I think. This is probably my favorite of the bunch - it's pensive, provocative and a slow-burn. Another fantastic example of layering when it comes to thoughtfully building everything up and then stripping it back away, down to just the piano again.

I think you captured the atmosphere of your game idea very well. Love the moving between minor and major in Acceptance--musically, it tells the story you wanted.

Love the soundscape of Promise on the Beach, great use of ocean wave sounds. I also love the progression of Acceptance. Honestly all three are excellent haha. I am really impressed and inspired!

I love the atmosphere you created with this music. I really enjoyed the haunting/dreamy vibe that "Promise in the Beach" evokes. I think it's cool that you used vocal hums, they fit the music really well and make sense with the game idea you created. Very good decisions in the choice of instruments and in the orchestration as well. Very good job!
