- Wow wow wow! That ending was fantastic! Even got a little emotional over it haha! Very well made! Great music, style, story, writing and ingenious use of the theme! We, the player, are lead to believe we're spreading some arbitrary darkness mechanic in a random itchio game, and in the end we're made aware that we, those who play games, are the ones spreading light/life into them; that until then, a game sits in complete darkness/loneliness until someone decides to come along and turn it on! And having Pandora be the vessel through which we're motivated to light up the entire game was a great touch. I felt a little sad ending the game knowing I was just about to return Pandora and the game back to the darkness lol! Fantastic ending! With that said, I did find myself getting a tiny bit frustrated trying to get to the ending. The win/lose loops that could occur weren't great, but I'm glad I pushed through to the end! Thank you for making this!
- Very fun. My only "gripe" is being able to click on the pieces takes like two tries at times, but it still registers it. Definitely want to see more of this
Did you include your Game Design Document in your downloadable files?
Yes
Tell us about your game!
A chess-like puzzle board game where the tiles can change color, and the pieces don't get removed from the board - they instead become yours or get taken away.
Your objective is to turn the board tiles into your own color (black).
There is a story with our lovely mysterious lady character. It's up to you to decide how to interact with her.
Most of the game requires mouse clicks. You can also press ESC if you want to adjust the volume, or return to the title screen. Good luck! I hope you have fun.
Did you remember to include your Game Design Document?

Is your game set to Public so we can see it?

Ok, this might be my favrite game of the jam! It grabs your attention right away with the diologue, and its very unique. Pandora is very charismatic and made me chuckle a few times. "Why do you want the queen?, you already have me *wink". The mechanics themselves are also simple to understand and complex enough to make me want to keep playing. No joke, with more content and a little more polish I would buy this on steam.
2 complaints:
-Please make it so that if you capture all enemy pieces you auto-win, it can get tedious trying to fill the grid when theres nothing to stop you anymore.
-Sometimes you just get caught in a loop with the AI and it can get fairly annoying.
But over-all, amazing!
Thank you for such kind words! I appreciate the feedback a lot! It makes my day to receive feedback like this, and I've taken note of the complaints too ^^ Thank you for playing!!
The music and art for this is absolutely incredible! The gameplay is pretty interesting, and even for someone who has never played chess, it was relatively easy enough to eventually figure out how the pieces move. I do think one frustration I had was just the opposition being able to just flip pieces back and forth with you. I get that it's probably just a game mechanic, but it happened way too many time for my liking. Overall, a pretty solid game, though. Also, Pandora hurt my feelings :( I had to close the game, it's not my fault!
If I could give this comment more than 1 like, I would! Thank you for complimenting the art and music. Our artist did an incredible job, and I was very lucky to have them join the game jam. I've never made music for anything before, but I practiced a lot so receiving compliments on music has been my favorite response. I understand how you feel about the mechanic flipping back and forth. I would've done it better if I had time for testing at the end. Knowing that name means a lot! Thank you so much for getting there!! I'll let her know it's not your fault! xD
I really love the idea and clearly there was a lot of thought put into building a story and world this takes place in and could see a lot of really interesting ways you can build off of this.
To add some constructive feedback:
- Getting caught in a loop feels pretty rough, as you know. I see their being many challenges in coming up with a balanced solution. Maybe the tile/piece becomes inactive for a few turns or each side has a starting zone that new pieces will swap to when collected?
- It feels like it should auto win upon turning all enemy pieces.
- Often clicking through dialogue and loading levels felt really long.
Thank you very much for playing! I've had a few suggestions about a starting zone and auto-win, it's good to see more players point that out. And your last point, hmm.. Maybe a skip dialogue button would've helped for players who wanted to quickly move to the next level. I appreciate the feedback a lot!
Super cool game! Really enjoyed it. Great art and fun gameplay, one thing you should know is that if an enemy is next to something you are capturing it will infinitely recapture. I lost my queen and could never get it back :(
Seriously great job!
Thank you so much for the feedback! And yeah, recapture loop is something I had to settle with for this jam, hopefully the player learns to be careful to avoid that! ^^
