  • The style of the game is nice enough that I'd be intrigued to check it out. In regards to the controls, I find them to be simplistic to follow as well. When it comes to the theme, I can understand, based on your GDD, where "shadow" fits into the story you're trying to tell, but I am not fully understanding where "alchemy" fits; though one could argue that 'transformation' could be involved here in regards to the bug overcoming their fear(s). I struggled a bit getting past one part in the early stages where after interacting with a berry and seemingly failed/died right after. I probably was missing something, but overall, this was a unique experience, keep up the good work!

Did you include your Game Design Document as a Google Drive link?
Yes, in the description under "Game Design Document"

Seriously... did you include your Game Design Document?
YES!

Is your game set to Public so we can see it?
Yes!

Tell us about your game!
Firefly is an interactive puzzle about a little lightning bug who is afraid of the shadows, but he must learn to use his light to overcome the darkness. Along the journey to The Luminous Hollow, berries with mysterious powers will help provide him the abilities he needs to face his fears. Shadows are the main antagonist of the game. These will appear as darker areas and will suck away your light!
This game is meant to be cute and atmospheric. I want the player to feel like a tiny bug in a very big world and experience not only the fear but also the beauty that comes along with being a part of something much bigger. I believe music defines a significant part of any game, and my teammate Obey did a fantastic job with interpreting the theme.
(More of this description is in the GDD.)

Extra Notes
My team consists of two people: Myself (JacobRuby), and Obey (ProdObey). I used many of Quaternius's open assets, and he even offered to make the main firefly model for me. I don't think he counts as a team member for the jam, but he is listed under "Special Thanks."
This is my first time ever successfully completing a game jam project after about 5 years of messing around with game engines on and off. Thank you so much for hosting! I learned more during these two weeks than all of my past game engine experience combined!

Very relaxing cute short game!

:(

I think there could be better indication on what the pickups actually do, I was so confused how to get across to get that final pickup

Wow, what a lovely little game! I really liked the art and the environment. It was very nice!

The controls felt really good and I liked the tiny puzzle near the end. I really liked the music too, very relaxing and gentle.

Overall really good job on this game, definitely has a lot of potential!

What a lovely mood you created with your game. The music and lighting are perfect, and the bug is so darn cute. I found the game pretty hard, but that's usually a good thing with puzzle-type games so no complaints from me <3

Dammit! I'm still dying to this cube xdd
Overall it's nice little game. It needs a bit of a polishing touch (maybe animations, UI). keep on going making games guys! :)

Thanks for playing! Yea, it would be nice if there were animations, but I had to focus on other things. I hope it at least supported theatre of the mind for you!
