  • Great game with great theme implementation. Fun platformer with interesting puzzels. Great theme implementation! Would like to see more different variations of platforms in the future. Well done!

Did you include your Game Design Document as a Google Drive link?
Yes

Seriously... did you include your Game Design Document?
Yes

Is your game set to Public so we can see it?
Yes

Tell us about your game!
After falling through your basement floor the journey begins. The dark cavern under your home is not as it first seems. Complete platforming challenges using the light and shadows. In the game some platforms are dark and some are light. You can step on dark platforms in the darkness and light platforms in the light. This quickly becomes complicated when you need to swap between shadow and light quickly while mid air to solve difficult challenges.

For quick judging use the key [U] to skip level. All the bindings for the game can be found in the escape menu (must exit fullscreen first). On first tries the game can take up to 15m to complete, so feel free to use it if you get stuck. I want you to look at the entire game, there are interesting mechanics near the end.

Extra Notes
I’m not an artist or a musician, just a simple software engineer. I did my best making some of the art, some I got from itch.io or the Unity asset store. As for the music, I got a license to use it in a commercial setting via the unity asset store. All assets are used legally and following the Jam rules. In the spirit of the game Jam I’ve made as much as I could on my own.

That was HARD but definitely FUN, didn't finish it cos i feel how my rage level rising through game :D I would definitely interested in watching someone speedrun it. Also, those death screams are terrifying xD

Developer(+1)

LOL I'm glad it made you furious. Was my intention. When I'll add save feature for web it will make the game better because you would be able to take a break and relax.

The death screams still surprise me man. Make me laugh every time.

Thank you for playing

Very nice movement, shame that the slide jump wasnt utilized more. The spike hitboxes were kinda annoying and in some places the height wasnt adjusted well so you had to micro adjust with a fixed jumped height, which was annoying. But overall very nice experience and smooth movement.

Developer

Thanks for playing.

I'm gonna take everything in to account, I couldn't get the variable jump curve quite right so I kept it fixed for now because the fixed jump curve felt good but I'm going to work on it more. As for the slide jump, I didn't want it to be a must use tool but more of a tool to speed things up and make the game flow. You can actually use it in most levels to cut on time. In this case it's more of a delibirate choice not to force it on the player.

Wow! There are so many levels! Reminds me of playing Celeste. I like the idea that jump with the turning light and you need to almost press the two keys at the same time and double press jump. Like the game feel such as the sound effect and movement! Good job!

Developer

Hi, thanks for playing! Celeste was defenitly a huge inspiration for me in the level design and character controller design (mainly the jump). You are the second guy that noted that so I guess that shows, awesome.

This game jam is the first time I've done sound effects, I'm glad you liked them.

Neat game! Didn't quite finish it but enjoyed the bits that I played, reminds me of late 00's-early 10's Flash games, in a good way. I feel like a past corpses as shadows similar to the ones in This is the Only Level and other games from that era would've added a nice touch. Or just simple markers for where you died.
Maybe a live death counter too? (but with an option to disable for people who don't like it)

I also happened to notice that your GDD seems to only be available as a PDF download? The rules were updated to require a Google Docs link due to malware risk, so you'd want to address that. Pointing it out because I'd hate to see this fun game of yours get disqualified for something so trivial.

Developer

Thank you for playing the game and commenting. There is a death counter that shows up at the end screen but it's a good idea to add one earlier. My thoughts were that it would just annoy the player seing the counter just go up and up but it's a good idea to have it in settings.

And thank you very much about notifing me about the rules. I will fix it imidiately.
