  • Would be better with music, but its a fun arcade style game, with great cover art. It would be nice if the game wasn't resolution locked, or at least fullscreened to the right resolution. Cool concept! I enjoyed the concept of being a lego piece, but I do think the speed mechanics need more thought put behind their scaling.

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes

Summarise your game!
The Player controls a brick which got thrown into a room from a baby. The Parents are walking through the room and you as the brick try to hit their feet, but beware for the Detector which is represented as a blue cone. The Detector Appears and Disappears on an interval as well as the feet. The run ends either by being detected or being out of breath. After that you’re able to increase your abilities by upgrading them. Controls are WASD for movement, E to interact with the shop and Space to hold breath

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
How many times in your life did you step on a thing, especially a brick and scream like someone is about to murder you. Well in this case it might be true. Therefore we decided to be the brick that tries to sneak under your feet without you noticing.

Eheheh, the idea of this game is charming. I like your art style!

I feel like the balancing needs the most work- max level speed felt like it barely upgraded the brick, and im not sure if breath upgrading did anything. I also just couldn't escape the detector even at max speed, which is a bit of a downer.

I'm sure you know about the ui issues, so I'll say something you might not have received as critique- the diagonal movement is actually faster than the horizontal/vertical movement. This is a common mistake in 2d topdown games and there's a really great yt video about the problem and how to fix it, let's see if itch allows me to link it-

oh lORDE it pasted the whole thing. welp, enjoy LOL

Thank you for playin and especially for the how to fix the diagonal walk is faster than it should be.

Yea the upgrades were kind of not ideal, we will work on all of the things I mentioned in the other comments and hope to improve it in a way that you all can enjoy it more.

This is an interesting concept for a game, and I definitely sees there are potentials. I mean, who never stepped on a lego brick?

But that's being said, there are still a lot of places where you can improve the game with. I think the most obvious thing is to make the foot react a bit if it stepped on the brick. I am totally expecting to see that pain in the artwork but sadly its not there. Also, another easy bit is to add sound, and that will dramatically makes the game feels more fun and complete. To give one more point I'd say adding some visual indication on how long before the foot stepped on the floor. It's a easy way to add tension and also would add some strategic depth to the game too!

Anyway, keep making games and keep up the good work!

Thank you for playing.

I agree with you, the lacking of sound made it feel not as good. At time of the gamejam our Sound Master was not available therefore we needed to skip that. Also I agree with the hit indicator like a visual effect.

Agree with curbside, I think the concept is great and the idea of a lego piece being the weapon is amazing (wish I came up with that) but I too was confused about if I was doing things correctly. Also, I was able to buy all the upgrades after dying twice but even then didn't manage to do anything useful it seemed?

Anyway, amazing job on the theme idea though!

Developer

Thank you for playing.

The indicator was "number goes up" in the top corner.

Yes, the Upgrade concept was not yet implemented in a way that makes sense - the idea was to deal more damage for more points, hold breath for longer to prevent the detector to find you and the speed to run faster away.

I enjoyed the artwork and concept of the game, but there doesn't seem to be any sort of indication that I'm playing it correctly. I can get under the foot okay, but how do I know I've done the thing? The detector doesn't really make sense in the universe of a brick on the floor and what is the breath holding for?

I think there's a kernel of a great idea here, but not much player satisfaction.  Needs more player feedback or guidance.

Thank you for playing.

I apologize for the late response I did not get a notification.

The indicator for now was "number goes up" in the top corner. This is on our list to be improved.

The Detector was intendet to be like in Toystory not to be seen by the people if that makes sense ?
