  • This game has a lot in it for only 2 weeks of work. It played smoothly, and didn't really have any bugs. I really liked the art style and the aesthetic that it was going for, really gave it that dark horror vibe. The screen did seem a little zoomed in so I couldn't really tell if there was anything else to the left or right of my character. the rogue-lite theme is a nice touch for this type of gameplay, I liked that I could upgrade multiple things and see there was even more if I played longer.

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
yes

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
yes

Summarise your game!
story:
Vorath a monstrosity sealed inside a scythe is found by a lonesome adventurer, on contact they're both bound together, to break free from this curse Vorath convinces Selene that she needs to gather as many souls as possible.

Mechanics:
Enemies spawn each wave, they also get stronger each wave.
Upon reaching enough waves the player can choose and upgrade (different buffs) to last for the current run.
Upon death the player can spend gathered souls to upgrade their character and become stronger.

You will complete the game once you reach wave 99

as the player beats more waves they will have access to more powerful upgrades

controls:
The game supports two layouts without needing to switch between them
Modern:
WASD - move
Left Mouse button - attack
ESC/tab - pause
Retro:
Arrow keys - move
z - attack
x - pause

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
The player essentially plays as vorath, he is a weapon (scythe) and is controlling the secondary character (selene).
Selene in the story is viewing herself also as the weapon and Vorath as a mere tool to a means. Meaning that they have a very hostile dynamic towards eachother.

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
Player progression, I tried making it as fun as possible <3

Cool game! Played it all through.

Had a bug where the character would glitch thorugh the floor several times and landed back on the floor. The UI was rather big in comparison to the game itself.

I liked the visuals and simple gameplay approach you took! Upgrades feel meaningful and later on you just breeze through waves. (Range of the blue form is insanely OP) :)

Had fun! Great game! :)

Developer

Thank you for playing the game! that bug is an intended feature >_< every 5 waves the floor drops and changes color to indicated that the player is making progress, either way I appreciate the feedback and I'm glad you enjoyed it <3

Really liked the game!

The itemization looks a lot like mine, and that's really cool!

I also really liked the pixel art design.

I wished there was more enemy variety, but the slimes were really cool (and strong)!

One small thing I missed was a more visual and compact UI, but it didn’t take away from the fun I had in the game.

Cool game!!

Thank you for playing the game, kind words and also thank you for the feedback!! <3

The UI being more compact is a great idea, problem is I was working in pixelated resolution and tried to upscale the screen 2x-4x rather than using other methods, leading into the text being kinda locked in on a very big font or else it would unfortunately break, I've learned from my mistakes though and I shall make sure that in next projects I try something different >_<

The slime death animations are great and attacking feels good! I'd like to get a few faster level ups. Good job!

Thank you for trying out the game!

I really love the aesthetics of the game, it has a very unique art style and feel to it! The controls are very intuitive, and the main menu of the game is simple to navigate! When it comes to progression, i would say it would benefit greatly from increasing the cost of each subsequent upgrade more (for example, multiplying the cost of each upgrade by 2). Right now, it is very easy to get your damage to such a number that everything dies in just one hit. Also, i feel like a frame or two of invincibility when the player takes damage would be quite beneficial, but that could be just my preference) Overall, i really love the gameplay and the graphics are just out of this world!

Developer

Thank u soo much for the feedback! I put a lot of emphasis on the artistic representation and I was a bit scared of making the progression too halting so the player would start feeling disinterested, glad too hear that ppl want more challenge. Also the invincibility is a great idea, again thank you very much for trying out my game!! ^-^
