  • Dungeon's Animism is a really great game! I loved the artwork, the music & sounds, the feel of the abilities, and even the 'time is of the essence' countdown with the sword health. All of those things were done really well for this Jam submission. I will say that this game was quite hard for me. I struggled really early on. It felt like the game got hard a bit faster than it should, or more simply, it's a skill issue on my part. Either way, I found it difficult, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I thought the teleporting was a bit overpowered for the wizard. It would be a bit more 'fair' if there was some sort of visual queue that they were about to teleport maybe .5 seconds before they actually did. I can't tell you how many times I threw the sword and it got within pixels of the wizard, just for the wizard to disappear. You stuck to the theme very well! We literally were the weapon, possessing enemies and jumping between them as quickly as we could. You nailed the 'fast paced' game feel. It was heart pumping and repayable for sure! Your GDD was concise and easy to read. I'm glad you included your development timeline. I think that is super important for a game designer, but also for a game Jam so that we as judges can see what you completed, what you planned for, and what you maybe didn't complete. Great job overall! A bit hard, but still very much on the fun side.

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes

Summarise your game!
Dungeon's Animism has you control a spirited sword, stuck in a dungeon for an eternity. Until one day some adventurers had found you. Your health continuously drains, while defeating enemies helps replenish some of your health. Impale and possess them, and use their bodies to make your escape!

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
You are a spirited sword; a weapon. It has the ability to possess bodies to move around, and kill enemies instantly.

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
Not particularly, but the audio in the web version of the game sounds a bit "crispy", not too sure why.

Once i plugged in a mouse i started to have a good time. The mage blink mechanic is beyond infuriating, there should really be a cooldown to keep it reasonable. Nice concept, great music!

Developer

Thanks for playing! As for the mages, there is actually a cooldown, but we could have probably conveyed that better. They do teleport a bit fast, but that's because they get nervous when you are near them. They are much more chill if you give them a bit of space.

The mechanic is pretty cool

I really like this one! The impact of the sword hitting feeling really good. I came to a level that was pretty hard, tried 6+ times and didn't get it. I still liked it tho! Awesome job!
