  • Wrath of the Forge is a fantastic dungeon crawler and roguelike with absolutely gorgeous background art and well-crafted level design. The music is great, and the game presents an interesting story. However, I’m not entirely sure if the theme was well implemented. Initially, the idea of the Blacksmith’s Souls being used as part of the gun sounded promising, but then another hero—who ultimately becomes the player character—uses the gun. This raises the question: Are we the hero, or are we the weapon? Perhaps both, as Drakthos intended. It’s a bit unclear and could use some refinement. Unfortunately, I encountered a few technical issues. The game only ran on a Chromium browser, as Firefox got stuck on an endless loading screen. The shop interaction felt laggy, with the UI stuck on the dialogue screen, and the in-game music seemed to overlap with itself. The GDD falls a bit short and could definitely be expanded upon. Using the previously provided template as a reference could help as well as adding images. Overall, this is a solid dungeon crawler. While there are areas that could be refined and expanded, there's a lot of potential here. I genuinely hope you continue developing the game with more features and levels!

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes

Summarise your game!
The game is a roguelike, Binding of isaac-ish game. The player navigates through the dungeon to kill a god for a Dark god. You are the weapon trying to convice the hero not to do the biding of the dark god and kill him instead.

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
You play as the weapon in the narrative trying to kill the dark god to get revenge for binding you in the this weapon.

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
I made this game in <5 days. TIP: all the items in the shop cost 10 coins.

The music in the game is so cool! I especially loved the menu theme - it’s both epic and beautiful. I’d also like to highlight the stunning art at the beginning of the game and the impressive number of mechanics for a jam project. It's funny that the credits in the main menu don’t include the developer's name! :D

Now, regarding a few small bugs I noticed. I’m sure they’re due to the large number of mechanics, which must make it hard to keep track of everything. A couple of times, I encountered a bug where the doors would open before the enemy was defeated. Also, if I accidentally pressed the space bar in the middle of a dialogue with seller, the game would break. Other than that, everything was quite smooth.

I also feel that the shop could use item descriptions and prices. It wasn’t very clear what I was purchasing. Additionally, frequent critical hits caused the screen to shake constantly, especially during the final boss fight.

Overall, I really enjoyed the game! It reminded me of an old game - Never Split the Party. That game didn’t have a story, though, whereas here there are even dialogue choices, which I found great!

Hello, Sorry for the late reply.

Thanks for playing.  Yes, I was in a big rush at the end that I could not modify even this :D

For the door issue, it was a bug that happens if you  trigger the spawner twice. But it is something that I noticed too.  Also the spacebar resets the level, it was suppose to be a debug for me, that I forgot to remove XD. joys of a gamejam I guess :D

Thanks for the feedbacks on the game, i'll check the other bugs you mentionned with the screen shake.

a lot of fun and a lot of content for the time given. the final boss was super hype. i really enjoyed the dialogue cutscenes as well. dialogue decisions were a nice touch.

my strategy for each dungeon was pretty much just rush the yellow room and then the blue room. i didn't realize you could find chests elsewhere until later. maybe marking them could give players a reason to explore the rest of each floor?

awesome game!

Developer

Thanks man! Really happy you enjoyed it! I'm really happy you found the 'Not So secret' ending.

Very impressive for a 5 day jam! I am not very good at binding of Isaac but I've managed to get all the way to the end of this one and quite enjoyed it :) I'd suggest a balance update. By the level two I seemed to have been already unstoppable. Did not have any need for coins anymore so I didn't bother to go through all the rooms after that. At first I didn't know how to open the shop. I kept pressing 'E' but that just restarted the dialogue. As a result, my boss fight took about 5 seconds.

Developer

Hey! thanks. The balance is quite off. Abnormally off ahaha. About the dialogue, I forgot to put the flag to not launch the dialogue again. small details I did not get time to get into. But I agree, the balance is way off here.

cool game especially for just 5days, did you make the graphics by yourself?
i liked the intro, the chats between the characters and the art.
fighting is also ok, player is fast, but nearly always the same enemy in every room, that made it boring fast.
music was also a good selection. Later on i had a music bug, i think music was playing twice at the same time.
overall good job!

Developer

Hey! thanks for playing. I did not make all the art myself since I spent most of my time coding the system and was trying to get the procedural generation going along with the enemy AI XD.

But yeah about the music, after uploading the game I saw that bug that I was not getting in the editor, but it was too late for me to fix it.
