- Game design document is fairly basic, but gives a good sense of the desired gameplay. Very easy to tell what features were developed and what are long-term goals. I think developing levels instead of just using an "endless mode" is great idea. Lots of ways to work with that both mechanically and story-wise. Based on what was said in the GDD I would suggest giving the player some control over the book's development rather than just tying it to specific levels. Whether it's being able to choose which set of spells are taken into a level, which spells are upgraded to become more powerful, or choosing between different books (characters) with different spells/attacks, feeling that sense of agency/control keeps the player engaged in a way that wouldn't be possible with a fully game-controlled upgrade path. All of the pieces are here to continue developing this project into the vision presented in the GDD. Very solid start! Things noticed while playing: - I was surprised at the range of motion the book had. I expected it to be chained within a certain distance of the child and was pleasantly surprised. Lot of additional strategy possible with the extra move space. Very nice. - No in-game tutorial or description of spells or controls. Just starting the game "blind" is a bit confusing. - Cooldown timer on seeds spell feels very long for current state/balance.

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes
Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes
Summarise your game!
Imagine Vampire Survivors but you are the weapon that revolves around the character. The main character is an NPC and is also a noob. A literal child. As the grimoire of the most powerful mage in history, you have to protect that NPC child, teach it how the world works, and how to become a powerful mage.
I could only implement the primary mechanics in an endless level but something I want to have in my game ultimately is a story mode. I am very inspired by heart-tugging games like Undertale, Mother 2, etc. I thought of a background story for later. You can see that idea in the GDD.
Please explain how your game fits the theme:
The player is literally the weapon of the main character in the game so I guess it fits.
Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
I'm a solo team and a beginner in this jam. I used free assets available on itch to deliver in time so the graphics may look very ugly. 🙏
Please give me some tips on how to learn the GoDot engine up to a point where it feels like a comfortable tool to develop anything I have in mind. I felt very overwhelmed because I didn't know GoDot well enough.

Nice game! I really like the concept of protecting the player. The abilities were cool, especially the trees surrounding the enemies! I hope you will keep learning and building up your idea, great work!
When it comes to learning Godot, the only real tip I can give you is to just keep making games! I know it's not the best sounding tip, but there is no "watch this video and you will be a godot master". Make pong, snake, super mario, tic tac toe, flappy bird. It's good to remake games that already exist because you don't have to design the game, you already know what the game will look like so you can just focus on developing! Good luck learning, and have fun!
Thanks for playing my game and for the tips! I will make more games to learn.
I love it!
One time, the shield ability didn’t work, but trapping the player in the trees and becoming untouchable by enemies feels broken.
It’s really cool, and I hope you had fun developing it!
Thank you for trying my game :D I don't have a shield ability yet though. Is it the "K" spell you're referring to?
I love the idea of the magic book protecting the player and the game is easy to learn. The theme would be more fitting if the book would have an attack though.
Learning Godot for the first time is quite a challenge but you get better with every game.I loved the youtube videos of DevWorm on Youtube to get started with Godot
Well done and keep going.
Thanks for trying my game and the GoDot tips! I agree attacks could be more fitting for a weapon. I wanted to go a different approach: "A shield can be a weapon in the hands of a master". Just like Captain America.
I did not see it that way but you are right, a shield can be a weapon in many ways ^^
