The Theme
You lead a group of trick-or-treaters through a spooky neighborhood. Each kid is carrying a helpful item in each pocket - but candy also takes up pocket space! The player must make tough decisions about which items to drop as they gather candy.
As a jam organizer, I was aware of the theme a few weeks in advance. Kevin graciously provided a secondary theme: "perilous". This neighborhood is full of peril, since it is inhabited by monsters! Failing an encounter may scare your kids - and they will flee if they run out of bravery, taking their held items and candy with them.
The Journey
I though the jam ended on Monday night, not Sunday night - so my entry is late. I did not actually work on the game at all on Monday, other than fixing a reported typo, and combining the completed art and music into the final build! Sorry!
The Team
Marrow was the composer!
Riverbottom was a consultant (and provided moral support.)

incredible ! love it
Thank you for playing!!
really enjoyed this! the art is endearing especially considering the theme of the game. there was a fair bit of reading required but that's to be expected with many boardgames. it's a fun dilemma trying to decide whether to take a lower tier candy early and lose an item versus risk it for a later one that is harder to get. i enjoyed a couple runs with different characters and trying out their different items (bubble wand my beloved) trying to min max candy income. the digital board game aspect gives you a somewhat tactile connection to the game which i find helps keep me engaged - in fact i did a project exploring digital flash cards as a form of study tool, and the clicking and dragging cards to match them keeps players engaged in a somewhat similar line as physical cards do. maybe something to be said about not automating everything for the player. great stuff!
Thank you so much for your detailed feedback! I have been kicking around the idea of a "physical" digital game for a while, but this was my first really attempt. It's so encouraging to hear that this clicked with you! Thanks for taking the time to play multiple runs!
good game but really complicated
Thank you for giving it a shot! We ran out of time, it would have been nice to playtest a little more to smooth out some of that complexity haha.
I love the concept!
I did have trouble trying to figure out if I was playing right. I had to kept checking the rules and still didn't feel like I understood in the end. Maybe a video tutorial would have helped me. Written board game instructions have always been hard for me, personally.
I also love the graphics, and music! It's really cool that we can play the board game in the browser! Really great work! thank you for sharing!
Thanks so much for playing! I recorded a short video playthrough, but I had not considered recording a full tutorial! This is a great suggestion.
Oh! I totally missed the video! Watching it helps a ton! Really awesome job!
