Really nice!

Developer

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)

That's a lot of deer :D

I started 1 minute late because I was searching for the pen, and hadn't noticed the sprint button.
I liked the idea and that you prevented it from being repetitive by entering a different phase:
-- a phase that requires the player to be on the pen.

Overall cute art, solid controls, interesting sounds, and alright premise.

I actually disliked the feeding sounds, were feeling like an explosion, and flooded really quick.
I have no strong feelings for the 'story' part of the game but it seems to be serving your purpose.

Developer(+1)

Hey, thank you for playing and for the feedback!

Adding a little tutorial is on my todo list, I'll definitely show where is the pen :) And sprint needs some rethinking, might just remove it and make the character faster overall. The feeding sound was actually an explosion from sfxr :D I will replace it along with watering sound, for sure. The story was little cute background to give you a reason to collect these deer.

Thanks again, I'm happy you played my game! :)

Ahahha, nice little game :) A sort of farmer game with kind of fast pace.
A few things to note:
there is no downside for sprinting, you can sprint for as long as you like (so why not do the opposite)
sounds are a bit too loud and if you play with headphone will be unpleasant
it seems nothing happens if you don't feed the deers -
5 minutes are too much since you only have to bring deers without any other urge, resulting on a boring task after a bit.

Thank you for your submission, it was a nice little experience to play :D

Developer

Yup, all things you noted are already in my to-do list!

I have to rethink sprint and add tasks that require you not to sprint or just remove sprint and make the character faster overall. Some sounds need to be completely redone (like watering and feeding, which are probably the loud ones you're talking about). The deers won't grow and won't make baby deers if you don't feed them - I'm planning on making a short tutorial explaining it. And I'll cut the time to 3 minutes which will keep you running and you won't get bored (which happens at about 4 minute mark from observing my friends :D )

Thanks a lot for playing and for the feedback! :)

What a lovely game! I really like the overall feel and the story is really lovely. The sounds are also very nice, though feeding and giving water sounds a bit harsh. Z order in graphics could be improved I guess and from time to time there was a horizontal line showing up while running.

I really enjoyed this! :)

Developer

Thank you very much!

I know that those 2 sounds are a bit odd, I already noted to replace them :) I learnt about the Pixel Perfect camera in Unity which should take care of the horizontal lines, I'll update the game after the jam. As for the Z order I just couldn't decide how to solve the issue so I put everything to be obscuring the player but of course I'll do something about it, now that I have more time :D

Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback!

Very cute little game, love the art!

It's really fun to get more and more deers into the ranch, a little bit too easy to win though!

Developer

Thanks a lot! I spent a lot of time on art since I'm no artist but I wanted the game to look good :) I'm glad you had fun, thanks again for giving my game a go :D

Submitted

Hey, really cool game ! I didn't really get what happened if you didnt take care of the deers, but the sounds and everything make the actions very satisfying good job !

Developer

If you don't feed and water baby deer then they won't grow into adult deer. And adult deer make baby deers when taken care of! Nothing really happens if you neglect them but you get less deer for grandma's ranch :) I'm planning to explain it a bit better in the future.

Thank you very much for playing and for the feedback!

ohhh makes sense, yeah i didnt know at all they could reproduce but still fed them anyways haha

86 deer, I hope my Grandma is proud of me. Great work, exactly like making my Grandma's dreams come true in real life.

Developer(+1)

Grandma looks very happy. Almost as happy as me, knowing that you played my game! Thanks a lot :D

There are A LOT (there is the theme in this phrase, too ahah) of bugs with Z-Order. When i go on rocks and near trees, these objects go on me...that's really bad to see, but graphics is good...GG

Developer

Another a lot that my game represents, hope you gave 5 for the theme! lol

I wasn't sure how to solve the issue because I don't always want the player to be in front of everything, but also wasn't sure when to obscure the character (like running through the forest - it would be nice if some trees obscured the player, some not, maybe from certain height?). Obviously, being short on time, I had to choose to be in front or behind everything and leave this problem for later - thought being obscured by stuff felt a bit nicer overall, so that's how I left it.

Anyway, that's something to figure out after the jam. Thank you very much for playing!

3/5 its a cool game but its really empty

Developer

Hey, thanks so much for playing my game! 3/5, that's like 6/10 which sounds awesome and I am so happy for that rating :D

I tried my best to keep the player busy so that he won't say that it's empty or boring but I guess that there was not enough variety in the tasks to do or simply the timer was too long. Either way, thanks for your feedback, I know I need to fine tune the game a bit further.

Submitted

That's a nice idea! I like the sprites, especially of deer, very cute. I feel like at some point there is just running from one deer to another giving them food and drink which can be a bit boring. I feel it might be interesting to have more variety e.g. some deer want only water and some only food and you need to pay more attention

Developer

Thank you for playing and for your feedback! I spent a lot of time on these deer :D

I knew that sooner or later the game would become boring, because for how long can you do basically 2 tasks (grabbing deers to the pen, watering and feeding them) over and over again. That's why there was a time limit (although a bit too long) so that the game ends before you get bored! I did experiment with having those tasks appear randomly and that you could take care of only one deer at once but it took away the dynamic of the game and also gets extremely difficult with tens or hundreds of deers. Seeing that you noticed it, I might experiment a bit more with slowing down the game, not having hundreds of deer but with more focus to each individual.

Once again, thank you for the feedback and thanks for playing the game! :D

Submitted(+1)

That makes sense. I think time limit is a good idea and it's good that it's not too long. And yes, I can see how tasks appearing randomly for each deer would take away the dynamic of the game. Like you said maybe slowing down the game and focusing more on each deer might benefit it.

i really enjoy playing this game !

Developer

Thank you! :D

Loved it, cute concept and had fun. I think a 5-minute timer didn't have the right kind of urgency but it still did the trick!

Developer

Noted, I was thinking the same, I will shorten it for sure. Thanks for playing! :D

Pretty good! I LOVE the title! At some point I found an exploit that allowed me ti get as many deer as I wanted from the middle of area, so I ended up catching 388 deer and.... that's a lot of deer!

Developer

Thanks so much! The whole idea for the game came from that title :D I know, I was kind of aware of it, just neglected testing lol I'll make sure to fix it soon, thanks for pointing it out!

This was really funny and intense xD Very well done !

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing!

This was fun, a mixed bag to be sure but a good game nonetheless.

While the sprites were very lively it's sad to see the font was just the default. But on the other hand there were a lot of small details such as the timer switching to milliseconds during the last minute.

The song may have been generic, but it was catchy enough to listen to for 5 minutes!

Sprinting was a nice addition, breeding wasn't obvious but you could eventually figure it out if you stayed in the pen for long enough. Speaking of staying in the pen for long enough...

There's a minor exploit which you can use to get really high scores. The Deers counter goes up whenever a dear is placed in the pen. That means you can pick up a dear you've already placed and place it again to get more points.

But all in all 5 minutes felt a shorter, it was a strangely addictive game, at least for me. Good job, hope you develop this game further in the future (^_^)

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for playing my game as well as such great feedback!

I tried looking for a font that fit the game but had a hard time. Even when I did find something - I had trouble importing it because there were some odd, unexpected artifacts. Once I make it work, I'll replace the default one, for sure! :)

I will add some tips about growing deer and breeding, had plans to do it but forgot in the last day rush. But I am crushed to hear about the exploit! I had it happen once so I threw a fix that I was 100% sure would work so I didn't even bother testing it! My bad, should always test everything lol Thanks for pointing it out.

Thanks once again for playing and for the feedback, it means a lot to me :D

Nice funny game. Just the kind of games you like to play on a jam.

That was a lot more fun than I expected. Nice work!

Great little game! I agree that the run button is probably superfluous, but at least it made me feel like I was actually more productive :D

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for playing! If you're feeling adventurous, try crouching with ctrl. It's like a real life mode, makes you feel less productive lol

Submitted

Cute and whimsical! Got 141 deer. I have small hands tho so it was rough having everything on one side of the keyboard. Having a run button felt unnecessary because there's not much of a reason to ever not run. The feed + water sound effects made me feel like I was doing something wrong at first because one of them is very sharp and the other sounds like a "you can't do that" low vibratey sound.

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! That's a fair point, I might pop in with an update to assign key bindings. Yeah, I was planning on adding a little bit of sneaking around with the adult deers (there's even crouching implemented lol) but had no time. Of course, as always, I added sounds in the last 30 minutes so they are whatever kinda fit from sfxr :D I will have to learn how to create sounds. Thank you for feedback!
