Title
Open Space

Description
I got inspired by the idea of a bagpipe player in an open field, with the constant chugging energy you can get in folk music. I was able to arrange the intro and E piano melodies into a larger song pretty quickly, but getting the changes in energy to feel natatural took some time.

Instruments used
- E piano 6
- Bagpipe -3
- Whistle/foley 3
- Viola 4
- Synth 2
- Drumkit 4
- Triangle -1

Total = 15

Really interesting choice of instruments, and it's amazing how well you were able to get them to work together. It reminds me a bit of the soundtrack to Wind Waker.

Really cool combination of instruments you used, sounds amazing! I love the synth especially.

Maybe my only critique is that sometimes it has a lot of high notes (I know because I’ve fallen in this same issue too)

Developer

Thanks. I was real tight on points at the end of making this. I tried to get just the background violas and kick drum to fill the bass, but maybe having some lower notes for the other instruments would have helped.

I love how the synths complimented the bagpipes, and the whistling was a super unique touch that adds some wholesomeness to the whole thing. Some of the mixing could be improved to give the piece a little more cohesion, but I really like this one overall!

The bagpipe is a little loud compared to the rest of the instruments, but compositionally this is really good!! I like that the beginning is playful and carefree until the tinge of dissonance right as you start incorporating more of the drums, it gives it that twist to keep things interesting.

I like the overall vibe you're going for! The uplifting rhythm and the melody are really nice, and the whistling is a great idea for the theme you're going for, though it is a tad bit off key. If you haven't yet, I think you could try using some quantization to clean up some of the rhythms in there to improve cohesion between your various instrument parts.

Developer

Thanks! Yeah, the quantization is something I thought could be a problem, but you stop hearing it like that once you've worked on the song for a while. I'll consider it in the future. And yes I can't whistle very in tune, even with some autotune on it it wasn't quite right.

Oh yeah, I totally get that, I'll be working on a piece and think it's perfect, then the next morning I notice so many things my ear had gotten used to and missed. And for the whistling, I really admire the fact you actually recorded it, that's super cool, and you definitely did it way better than I ever could've. You've kinda inspired me to try something like that in the future, and maybe incorporate my own piano playing into a piece.

This is the most interesting set of instruments I have seen and that is really cool. I liked when the synth came in near the beginning because I wasn't expecting it!
