Haha Cinco pulling off a Char by taking off his helmet and putting on sunglasses. Love the plot! The platforming mechanics was quite challenging trying to work out the jump/dash/attack mechanic.
Loved the story and character art in this game. The ending was really well done and got a laugh out of me. I got a bit frustrated at the difficulty in the third level and starting wishing for a checkpoint system but the finale cutscene made it feel worth overcoming. Great work!
Super challenging, but I think that adds to the satisfaction of beating it. Also, top tier pixel art!
For a precision based action 2D platformer, I would recommend incorporating some of these key principals in your jump mechanics going forward: jump buffering, coyote time, and jump height based on button press. This will strengthen the feedback response the player has when using a jump, and will feel more snappier in return. Without having these functions implements, it is very common for players to feel like their jump command was "eaten".
Overall the style of the game was quite fun (albeit, very punishing). The sprites were nice and colorful, very reminiscent of a GBA game. I hope you continue to lean into the sentai-esque aesthetics, as it would help add an extra level of flourish to your game. Good work!
Thanks! That's good to know! I had thought about changing jump height based on the button press, but tbh I just didn't get around to it. The other stuff I wouldn't have even thought of (I had never even heard of coyote time) but reading into it that makes a lot of sense. Glad you still liked it!
Cinco Bajeena got a good chuckle out of me lol
Loving the game mechanics. It flows really good.
Fun writing and cool mechanics! It definitely took me a bit to get used to the controls, I think maybe a few extra levels to tutorialize the dashing and ramp up the difficulty more slowly would help a lot.
