Interesting concept! I didn't realize it was a memory esque game at first until I experimented a bit. I liked the symbols within the books. I really like the setting, and I liked how the music rewinds when you hit restart. Its a bit obtuse if you don't read the description, but I still think its a cool game!

Developer

Thanks! Very fair assessment on the "obtuse" aspect. It's definitely doing a different thing.

The music player system was fun to program! Glad you liked how it turned out.

The concept of the game reminds me to the JK Rowling web page. which make sense since the aesthetics  seems inspired in harry potter. I tried to understand the game though it was hard since it is not user friendly, the following things could be improved:

  • game window is too small for the amount of little pieces of UI that are interactable and the texts being displayed, cannot resize to fullscreen neither
  • I am not sure why there are two help buttons with different texts that overlaps each other when clicked
  • the interactable objects has a very tiny yellow indicator that is hard to notice.
  • the colors and transparency makes difficult to read most of the texts and leaderboard
  • music and art are nice, generated by AI both though.

Agreed that the UX is not the best. Will do better next time!
What browser are you playing in? I can resize it in Firefox, and it defaults to full-screen on my phone.

yeah the browser is the issue, all chromium  based browsers does not have the maximize button enabled and neither that occurs automatically. firefox does by default for no reason at all.

I think you could improve in the gameplay/tutorial part, but nice job at the art and ui and for finishing :)

Developer

Yeah, getting a good score is a bit confusing. If you just click on random stuff you'll eventually beat the game though!

Made a video tutorial, which I concede is a tacit admission of game-design failure on my part:

Was very confused, did not know what I was doing. A tutorial would have helped, and I am not talking about a wall of text.

Art is dope. Missing some sounds. Great UI

Developer

You're not alone; It's a rather confusing game. The "wall of text" help buttons, was as far as we got for the weekend jam. A full tutorial would be great though, I agree!

Right about the sounds too, there are none! Just the background music.

Still good job on the art.

I agree! Midjourney AI image generation does not often disappoint. Wish I could take credit for it myself.
