  • Really good looking game. I read your comment about how the Balance theme is incorporated into the slicing mechanic, but I thought the theme was in traveling up the buildings, especially as the distance between them expands... how to balance your earlier speed/momentum with knowing when to slice. The slicing mechanic is clear, but the timing is not since the ball auto-slices so much. It's not at all clear, at first, that it requires any intervention from me.

Great Game!  It took me a little while to figure out that I could reshoot after the first shot, but after I did it all made sense!

Unfortunatly I couldn't connect to the server to summit my high score.

Developer

Thanks for the play! Sorry to hear the online scoreboard wasn't working for you. Was there any kind of message?

Excellent aesthetics, best I've seen across all submissions. And the UI is just fantastic, never gets in your way. Can't believe you did all of this in just 72 hours. Great job!

Developer

Thanks so much! I'm definitely used to scoping for 48 hour jams (e.g. Ludum Dare compo) and that extra day pretty much went into UI and extra polish.

Wow, this is great! Fantastic sound design and graphics, and the gameplay feels really smooth. I think it was just lacking a bit on meeting the theme of balance. Other than that, this is really impressive! I also think it would turn out to be a cool mobile game with different levels and stuff, that would be a lot of fun. Great job!!

When I start the game it asks for a name and immediately crashes after one input. The screenshots looks amazing so its really a shame.

Developer

Yikes! What device/Windows version are you using? I'll see if I can troubleshoot.

My best guess is that for some reason my key listener isn't recognizing the "name" of the keys you're pressing, which it uses to write the characters of your name. Are you using a standard QWERTY keyboard?

Thanks!

Developer

Hey, I identified the bug! It turns out it's just linked to the "F" key because of some artifacts of game jam debugging code I forgot to remove. You can either avoid typing "F" or get this new download that fixes the issue and has crash logging. Thanks for reporting the crash!

Great!! Sorry for not replying in time, glad you found out the reason.

Played it now and it was really fun, love the visuals and the gamplay!!

Excellent music, and aesthetics! Can't believe you made all the art, music, and coding. I didn't totally understand the relation to the theme that well, but overall a really nice game with addictive gameplay.

Thanks for the feedback! The theme was in the slicing mechanic, as you had to have balanced cuts and slice the lanterns exactly in half (it's weak, I know). I had trouble thinking of more direct interpretations that still resulted in a game that was fun to get high scores for, and others were certainly more creative in this regard.

Thanks for playing!

I really liked how this game looks and plays, I personally had a few problems. The game registered as suspicious from my PC's anti-virus which may have broken the highscores part of the game for me. Though the gameplay is very polished and the game itself runs well. The game also crashed after I tried to submit a score, but that could be the anti virus stopping it.

Oh no! Lots of foreign executables give warnings in antivirus software, but I don't think that is the problem. Does the error occur right as you press the submit button?

(And what was your name so I can check whether your games went through?)

Thanks for playing!

Edit: it might also be relevant where you're playing geographically and how fast your internet connection is; there may be odd behavior if the connection is timing out. The server is in eastern USA.

think i just put J as the name, I'm in the UK with a good internet connection. yea when I pressed submit it crashed for me as well as once when I viewed the leaderboard before playing the game.

Developer

I did get a single submission from a J with a score of 4605. It looks like your score submission may be working, but for some reason the score fetching is breaking (the timeout is a couple seconds, does it feel like you're exceeding that?)

In the meantime, since your scores appear to be going through, here are the current high scores you can try to oust :)

  1. ALEAR: 39534
  2. JARM: 37231
  3. JARM: 26499

Hi again! There's now a new download that has crash logging linked in the game page. If you're willing to give it a try to send me the log, I would appreciate it, but otherwise no worries.

Submitted(+1)

Hi, just tried it with that new build. still totally crashes in the same places and the anti virus once again hates it. (thinks its a generic trojan malware of sorts lol). was the log meant to appear in the game directory? as nothing appeared for me.

Developer

Weird. It should have generated a file called "crash_log.txt" in the same directory as the executable. Your score was received on the backend again.

Apparently not super fruitful. Thanks for trying it out though!

yea, my pc really doesn't like it. keeps trying to get rid of the exe.

when the game crashes after a playthough the exe just freezes. If its just me thats having problems then its probs just my old PC lol xD

This looks so cool! How did you make the assets? Or are they from a pack?

Developer (1 edit)

No, I made them in Paint.NET! Definitely happy how they turned out. The background art gets significantly lazier as you go up, haha.

I enumerated all the tools I used and all the sources for fonts, etc. on the game page.
