I'm not really a fan of these types of games but it does a good job at being what it aims to be. I managed to get through with almost 50 deaths but I was rushing and being careless at several points. The graphics are decent but could be improved and I don't see what this has to do with the jam theme. You do 'climb' up on certain levels but on others like the disappearing block hill you go down.

Regardless, this is a solid entry. Good job! :)

Fun game, interesting mechanic. Only thing I'd say is a bit of a problem, is that it's not really replayable. Once you know all the traps you can make the whole thing in one go. Nevertheless fun to play!

Developer

That's totally fair! I'm thinking of doing a randomise function so it's more difficult to memorise where things are. Or just make it really hard to get past, even if you do know where the traps are. Thanks for the feedback 😊

I got 60 on first try... then 2 on my second try :D

It's cool how the later levels seem to copy parts of earlier levels, adding to the confusion

Nice one!

Developer(+1)

Oh good on you! My brother restarted until he could beat it with no deaths lol. Took him ages, so it's impressive you got it down to 2 on the second attempt.

Well, it took me 84 attempts. Not the best. Nice art and the player movement felt nice and snappy.

I didn't understand the reason of the scoreboard and the prompt for a name from https://v6p9d9t4.ssl.hwcdn.net/ .

I must say, you made a great and fun game in 3 days.

I'm glad you enjoyed it and 84 attempts isn't terrible at all! It's impressive that you stuck with it. I played it again today and it took me 52 attempts and I know where all the traps are lol

I'm not sure why that's the case that it's prompted from that website tbh. It's a built in local 'highscore' feature in GMS2. I intend to make an online leaderboard as an update--This was just meant to be local and meet the need highscore requirement of the game jam. Stayed tuned for the online leaderboard update 😉

Hahaha, I hate you! Was really fun. Took me 78 attempts to finish. A suggestion: when you die,  delay the restart by 1 or 2 second, so you understand clearly how you died.

Developer

Lmao I'm sorry to make you hate me! And thank you for the tip--it was my plan but I couldn't figure out how to make that work in the timeframe. I'm still pretty new at developing games. I am working on that now though along with an online leaderboard as an update!

Very interesting take on the theme !! I enjoyed losing lifes ahaha
Graphics are hand made and music too, which is something I have to give you propos too..solid entry !

Developer

Oh just the graphics and programming are done by hems. I have a link to the music in the description from opengameart. I'm so glad you liked the game!

Haha remember me some super mario maker hards levels made.

Good idea !

Developer

I watched some videos of older rage quit games by Rooster Teeth on YouTube for some inspiration. Also some of the hard super Mario maker levels as well. I'm glad you liked it 😊

It was 42 for me! Agh, these rage quit games always goad me into seeing them through... I appreciate you not making yours ridiculously and impossibly difficult. I could tell you put a lot of thought into your levels, though I kinda ran through that last one and prayed not to hit spikes on the way down. 😅

But a job well done for 72 hours of work, that was fun to play!

Developer(+1)

That's why I put the spikes there! I was testing it and realised you could really just propel yourself down so I wanted one last trap for that. Glad you enjoyed it 😊

Great game. Really rage inducing :D But i've made it to the end and got 52 points. I don't know how many attempts it did take. Far too many :D

Developer

Thank you so much! The 52 points is how many times you tried and failed before you reached the end 😉

Not usually my kind of game but I say well done, the mechanics were solid and it’s amazing how many times I would forget traps or fake blocks even though I knew where they were. Definitely on theme with climbing. Some small improvements to the graphics and you’ve got a game that lots of YouTubers would probably play and rage at. Great job!

Developer

I appreciate this so much! This was my first game jam and actually the first finished game I've ever made! It means a lot that y'all like it. And I believe me--I have intentions on improving the graphics. Art isn't my forte so it's all I had time for lol I have many plans for the game 😊
