SCREAM JAM 2024 gHost's Choice -

Few games have tackled terminal-based game mechanics, even fewer as convincingly as here. The game is a good showcase for its core mechanic – unlocking and navigating through a rogue AI core using a portable terminal, a great idea easily scalable to a broader puzzle game. Popping it up, responding to dialogue, and inputting the commands from dialog and menu cues feels great. The narrative explores a fun interplay between the player’s instructor Handler, the AI CASSUS and the unclear delineations between the two as the game’s final twist reveals itself. There’s a polished quality to the game’s narrative progression in the vein of linear puzzle games such as Portal.

Thank you for submitting TriumAI to SCREAM JAM 2024, and congratulations on being selected as one of the ten gHost's Choice entries for the jam!

Wow this is crazy for 1 week of development, sorry for not trying your game earlier it is very cool. I wish that some of the commands were shorted and had autocomplete, your game is sort of similar to this other game called "quadrilateral cowboy", and if you use this terminal concept in the future I would look at that system to find improvements for your own. I like the story, but it would've been cool to get to use the terminal some more!

Thank you for playing!
I also wanted to get way more use out of the terminal in the gameplay but ultimately decided to polish what we had rather than try and hastily explain some of the more complicated features we had planned for it. I'll be keeping user friendliness in mind as we play around with this idea more in the future. Quadrilateral Cowboy look right up my alley thanks for putting it on my radar!

This is SO well made, congrats! I had a lot of fun with it, the story is really interesting! I haven't reached the end but I'll definitely be keeping it downloaded and playing it again later.

Developer

Thank you, I'm glad you've had a lot of fun with it!

does it force application quit after Hello World? or am I getting a crash, otherwise nice game, deus ex, as it was supposed to be

Developer

The game does force quite after hello world as we didn't have a main menu to go back to, I probably should have add a 'The end' or something to make that a little more obvious lol. Thank you for playing!

I spent about 3 hours figuring out the hacking device, and I enjoyed the realistic computer interface and engaging story that gave off System Shock vibes. The sound effects, voiceovers, and plot twist with the AI were very well executed, adding to the immersive experience. The PDA mechanic is clever, but a small hint on controls could help with the high learning curve—though I understand that’s part of the charm. It’s an excellent, challenging game with potential for more secrets, areas to explore, and additional hacking-based puzzles. I’d love to see more if you continue developing it. Thanks for the experience

I'm really glad you delved into the hacking device functionality. I spent a lot of time on the backend for that thing before realising we wouldn't have time to properly teach the player how to use it so it doesn't get as much use as I would have liked in gameplay. Thank you for your feedback and for playing the game, I'd love to expand on this concept in the future!

Developer
