This might be a nice place to share our efforts! Personally, I'm going to bundle relevant posts into entries for the Jam, or might bundle them per 6 or 12, I don't know yet.

HostSubmitted

Day 1! https://dicegoblin.blog/adventure-calendar-1-scribes/

(+1)

Day 1: Prismatic Knights. 5 weird magic knights you can meet on the road. Substantially higher effort than most of my posts will probably be.

Day 1:Where Did This Goodberry Come From?

A little rules pitch for using magical healing berries that have been corrupted by magical miasma.

(+1)

I'm putting everything for this jam as patreon blog posts (for free, no need to join) just because I want to do something with it. so here goes nothing

Here's day one

Day 2! I wrote out a whole bunch of ideas, but the post of yesterday gave me the idea for this one, so that's a day of content 'saved':
I wrote a way to keep dramatic storytelling and characterization *while also* allowing for lethal, "one moment you're fine, the next you're decapitated" OSR play: The Quantum Goodbye Letter!

https://dicegoblin.blog/adventure-calendar-2-the-quantum-goodbye-letter/

Submitted (1 edit)

Here's some Gygaxian Naturalism for my (late) day one entry: Dungeon Growth is a tiny set of tables for simulating the passage of time organically on your dungeons!

(1 edit)

Here is my first entry! Well okay first & second. One's a dragon & the other's a neat city I'm hoping to develop!

Day 3 right here!

Day 2: Cloak of Iron Shadows. A magic item for cool edgy ninja people that comes with a novel attunement process (and a half-baked idea for a bad guy faction who wields them).

HostSubmitted

Day 3! Yes, I saw Napoleon recently. Movie sucked. Gave ideas though.
https://dicegoblin.blog/adventure-calendar-3-pistols-rifles-for-cairn-block-dodg...

Day 3: Shatterspike. A magic weapon that my players just got their hands on so I needed to write it up. Based on Shatterspike from the Sunless Citadel except featuring my hatred of doing nothing on a miss.

Guess I forgot to hit post on day 2 so here it is. And here's a short one for Day 3 =)

HostSubmitted (1 edit) (+1)

The idea of the Adventure Calendar was to use it as a good reason to get rough ideas out there, and boy, today is a rough one: How I would run Halo: Combat Evolved as a fantasy RPG campaign. https://dicegoblin.blog/adventure-calendar-4-halo-as-a-fantasy-ttrpg-campaign/

Today I rewrote to ability descriptions. looks like I'm taking out skills and attack rolls. Hoping I can keep up the pace.
Day 4

(+1)

Day 4: Atomic Priesthood. A rough concept for an encounter you can drop into the bottom of a megadungeon, based on the idea that D&D is inherently post-apocalyptic and the "This place is not a place of honor" message.

Submitted

this is a really cool concept and I think you should do more stuff with radiation ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Submitted(+1)

This is a wonderful concept and a wonderful implementation. That Sandia report has fascinated me ever since I came across it a few years ago.

HostSubmitted(+2)

HostSubmitted(+1)

Oh and this
HostSubmitted

Do you know in movies how two combatants lock eyes, and we're shown a mind battle as if they're fighting, only to realize it's just a test of wills, not an actual fight?
https://dicegoblin.blog/adventure-calendar-5-the-battle-in-the-minds-eye/

Submitted

Bruh, I haven't seen Hero in ages lol. Great idea to implement tho ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ

Submitted (1 edit)

I've been drawing random Yu-Gi-Oh cards and OSEfying them. Here's a spell for Day 5 based on the card "Shared Ride. " ๐Ÿ˜€

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

Got hurt, sick, etc... Posts piled up so:

Here's my day 2 entry, a Sci-Fi MultiTool Generator done on perchance;

Here's day 3, Spark Tables for Mushrooms and 12 Rare, Magical Specimens!

Aand here's day 4, a D20 Starscraper NPC Generator for my Weird-Sci-Fantasy Setting, Needle-Heart and the Wyldlands!

Please forgive the horrid formatting of the tables, as I struggle to get blogger to behave the way I want it to.

Day 5 and I'm staring to carve up the class features in the SRD. I'm rather surprized that I'm able to keep this up.

Submitted

I feel the same way about my progress ๐Ÿ˜†

HostSubmitted

It's kinda wild how the schedule forces your brain to more creative, no?

Day 5: Sorcerer Subclass Spells. I let it get late today so this is a simple hotfix I use for pre-Tasha's 5e sorcerers.

Submitted(+1)

Day 6: A simple spell, with absolutely no relationship to the Kamehameha Wave ๐Ÿ˜…

HostSubmitted

Day 6: Keep several foes at bay with your rapier skills! https://dicegoblin.blog/adventure-calendar-6-flynning/

Submitted

perhaps this could be the start of a fighter sub class or a whole new Swashbuckler class๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Day 6, taking apart the bard features and realizing how much work simplifying spells is gonna be =/

Day 6: Cold Iron. My implementation of the European "cold iron" mythology as an Unobtainium-style fantasy metal.

Submitted

What if there was an entire fortress made from cold iron? Is that even possible? ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

(1 edit)

Yeah if you had a structure entirely built out of cold iron there would be pretty much no magic allowed inside. That said, imagine trying to build an entire fortress out of even regular iron with medieval technology. This has all the same logistical problems but worse lol.

HostSubmitted

Day 7, highlighting another type of NPC that isn't often featured in villages and towns: The Gravekeeper!

Submitted (1 edit)

After reading this, I immediately thought of the Gravedigger from Ocarina of Time ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Submitted(+1)

Day 7, another spell, one for all the evil wizards out there....๐Ÿง™๐Ÿฝโ€โ™‚๏ธ

(+1)

Woo! Day 7! Still kicking the "how does spellcasting work" can down the road. That's a problem for future Jason.

(+2)

Day 7: Stealing from Dread. I had a busy day. Make your party play Jenga.

Day 8: cracking through 2 classes at once, still putting off magic.

HostSubmitted

Look at us go! Day 8: Challenging NPCs to a duel
https://dicegoblin.blog/adventure-calendar-8-challenging-for-a-duel/

Submitted(+1)

Day 8. A Legendary Dragon for D&D, based off another Yugioh Card. This one got a bit long, but I was having so much fun writing it!

HostSubmitted

Day 9: A simple honor system, and determining honor through a survey!
https://dicegoblin.blog/adventure-calendar-9-a-simple-honor-system/

Submitted

So do you use the Honor dice to complete skill checks/add to rolls? Or is it more like an alignment system? ๐Ÿค”

Either way, I'd love to see a more fleshed out version of this ๐Ÿ˜Ž

HostSubmitted

I added an example quote of how I use it; it's when your believability relies on your honor.

Submitted

I LOVE double roll under/over systems, and love how you used that for Honor. This is giving me all sorts of ideas!

Submitted(+1)

Day 9: A musical trap to annoy/kill players, just as all good traps should! ๐Ÿช‡๐Ÿ“ฏ๐ŸŽท๐ŸŽธ๐ŸŽบ

It's Day 9 and I'm deleting action economy shenanigans from monks. I know starting characters are gonna be pretty crazy in this game but I don't want them to be broken entirely =)

Submitted

Transitioning to a new blog hosting platform means I had to transfer all my posts, and could tidy up some stuff in the process. Here are all the new links so far:

Day 1 - Dungeon Growth

Day 2 - Multitool Generator (now analog and improved)

Day 3 - Dungeon Mushrooms and mushroom spark tables

Day 4 - Starscrapers, pale transhumanist cyberfreaks for sci-fantasy games (now with extra, optional tables for Starscraper slave retinues)

NEW Day 5 - Six performance-enchancing drugs, drug spark tables and simple drug rules

NEW Day 6 - "The Library is Burning!", a diegetic minigame for taking all the loot from a crumbling location and escaping with your life

NEW Day 7 - Simple and unobtrusive rules for Pain, Stress, Fear and Panic in gritty fantasy games (works well with @Dice Goblin's Wounds & Injuries for Cairn)

NEW Day 8 - Camping and Camp Actions for games inspired by Cairn or Into the Odd, with rules for equipment decay and nasty infections.

Submitted(+1)

I really like the Day 6 entry and I may use it in my Avatar Legends game. We might have to use a Google doc instead of actual paper tho ๐Ÿ˜…

Submitted

Thanks! Yeah, I've been scratching my head trying to think on ways to make this work over online play, since people generally type a lot faster than they write. But I think it could work with a few adjustments.

HostSubmitted

Day 10: I refined an old shitpost into a complete... thing https://dicegoblin.blog/adventure-calendar-10-rootin-tootin-shootin/

Submitted

Day 10: A symbiotic, metal horse that doubles as armor ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Day 10: half-casters with no magic in which I cut a lot of junk out of ranger and paladin. Tearing through all the classes is giving me a lot of inspiration for things I could improve in the future but I gotta keep barreling forward. no editing till I smash through the whole SRD!

Submitted

Keep going man! ๐Ÿค

Submitted

Day 9 has expanded D6 skills, and classless, pratice-based skill progressions. Let your fighters get better at picking pockets!

(+1)

this skill resolution  is kinda like an inverted version of Ironsworn. I love that something extra always happens.

(+1)

Day 10: Languages. A rework of the 5e language system that's relatively setting-neutral (i.e. it works for vague medieval fantasy). Missed a few days but I should be back.

The idea of languages having special effects that arenโ€™t just "do you understand this guy" is fantastic. I imagine  players writing draconic on wooden doors to burn them down :)

Submitted

Words are power, indeed ๐Ÿค”

Submitted

Wonderful post! Linguistic relativity is criminally underappreciated in fantasy.

HostSubmitted

Day 11: Fuck it, cool swords https://dicegoblin.blog/adventure-calendar-11-japanese-bladed-weapons-for-cairn-...

Submitted(+1)

Day 11: Here's a cool summoning spell that brings in a temporary hero! ๐Ÿฆธ๐Ÿพ

DAy 11 and there's not much left of the rogue once I got through with it. Most of the other capstone abilities (level 20 features you'll never see in play) have been usable I think. but the extra turn a rogue gets at the beginning of every fight might be a little OP.

HostSubmitted

Day 12: Deliver exposition through stage plays!
https://dicegoblin.blog/adventure-calendar-12-stage-plays/

Submitted(+1)

Day 12: I present the Dug-Dug! It is a bug-bug that will make your body go thud-thud in the mud-mud ๐Ÿชฒ

Submitted

Half-way and I am still doing my part! Gonna need a heavy edit, it is more challenging to write than I imagined :)

The Rock Face

Submitted

Just remember, every little bit counts. Also, nice work on the dungeon! ๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿพโ€๐Ÿฆฑ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ

Day 12 maybe I have figured out what I want to do about the unruly spell list? is it a good solution? will I spend the next 12 days wrestling with it? Stay tuned to find out =)

Submitted

Beauty Kills - The Siren class for B/X is my late entry for Day 10.

This was my first attempt at writing a class for B/X (I don't usually play straight retro D&D or retroclones). It might be very unbalanced, and halfway through writing it, I realized it would probably have worked better as a monster. But, despite all odds, it is here.

Submitted(+1)

Very creepy and seems like something that would fit right in to Dark Souls! And don't worry about balance yet; just have fun creating! There will be plenty of time for that in the future ๐Ÿ˜‰

Submitted

Thank you! Always a compliment to hear something would fit in one of my favorite universes.

(+1)

Day 12: MtG Color as Alignment. Rough draft for a take on Magic: the Gathering's color alignment system with mechanical effects on the players.

Submitted

I wouldn't be surprised if there were DMs out there already using this take on alignment. MTG and DnD do share a lot overlapping players ๐Ÿ˜

HostSubmitted

That's awesome stuff!

Day 13: Magic... almost. Not quite there but Warlock has shown me the path

(1 edit)

Day 13: Fearsome Critters. Weirdo North American folklore monsters that provide bizarre challenges for people trying to hunt them.

(also thank you guys for all the nice responses to these posts, it feels good to get some attention on my random ideas even if the attention in question is like 20 page views lol)

Submitted

This right here is some good stuff; you could probably make a whole monster manual outta these guys! Also the Snoligoster scares me...๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿซฃ

Submitted

Day 13: Two rival groups battle for a dreaming princess underneath waves in a ruined city. I fully plan on fleshing this out more, but for now, this is what I have . ๐Ÿšฃ๐Ÿพ

HostSubmitted

Had to catch up on yesterday:

https://dicegoblin.blog/adventure-calendar-13-the-mortal-blade/

https://dicegoblin.blog/adventure-calendar-14-the-wandering-warrior/

Submitted

Great job being consistent, my guy! ๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿพโ€๐Ÿฆฑ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ

Also,  I especially like the Blade and it would fit perfectly in a game of Runecairn (it's another ItO hack, but more Dark Soulsy).

Submitted

Day 14: Here's an NPC to use as a henchmen or pregen, along with a hot magic item! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

I've been working on my calendar, and I'm a couple days behind, but here's Day 12: What's in the box?

Submitted

*Obligatory Seven reference here*

This is the best loot box I've seen all week ๐Ÿ˜„

Submitted

Day 15: A fearsome lizardfolk mercenary and his pet dragon for the party to face down against or pair up with! ๐ŸฆŽ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿฒ

Broke my streak, there's just too damn many spells to read. Here's a late day 14 with a selection of arcane spells

And here's a shorter list of nature spells to catch up to day 15. Going through this list it really feels like the high level spells are things that should be boss monster powers, or even entire adventures on their own. Letting characters do lower level magic constantly feels like the right choice though.

HostSubmitted

Did a bit of worldbuilding with a nature-inspired dwarven culture for yesterday:

https://dicegoblin.blog/adventure-calendar-15-arbor-dwarves/

Submitted

This is a great twist on Dwarfs! ๐Ÿ™‚

Also, another derogatory term you could use for them: "Splinters"

HostSubmitted

Day 16: A mixture of monsters! A slimy fiend, spellscroll construct and... OH GOD THIS GAME HAS PINWHEEL SKELETONS NOW

https://dicegoblin.blog/adventure-calendar-16-a-mixture-of-monsters/

Submitted

Day 16: A trap finding spell for parties who have plenty of mages but no thieves (for shame! ๐Ÿ˜ )

Day 16 and I've got a pretty good handle on how to categorize all the spells into the 3 groups and what I want to do to consolidate things (like all the many spells that are just damage) But it's time to stop reading spells for a while and get to some other rule systems that need smashing.

Day 17: a relaxing breakdown of equipment. So much simpler than magic =)

HostSubmitted

Day 17: I wrote a whole module. https://dicegoblin.blog/adventure-calendar-17-morph-shift-alter/

Day 18: Worldbuilding with the Starlight Sages: https://dicegoblin.blog/adventure-calendar-18-starlight-sages/

Submitted

I'd really like to see some more stuff on the Starlight Sages. Maybe if I wish upon a star, my desire will come true? ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ ๐ŸŒ

Day 18: halfway through restructuring combat to fit all the stuff I made up in features =)

DAY 19: Turns out I was only 1 third of the way through combat, not half. So many words but luckily I didn't have to change most of them =)

HostSubmitted

Day 19: Death is perhaps far too complex to be captured by just one god in a pantheon - so why not have many aspects of Death?

https://dicegoblin.blog/adventure-calendar-19-the-many-faces-of-death/

Love that "pass you by" is alternately a blessing or a curse depending on the aspect =

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

Day 17: A flying dungeon to confuse, confound, and captivate the party (or just kill them ๐Ÿ˜ˆ)

Submitted

I love the idea of a flying dungeon! Even getting there in the first place is already enough to get a session going - and the Tenebrous Gazer is a very interesting take on the old mad wizard archetype.

Submitted

Thanks dude! I plan on fleshing this dungeon out more in the future; give it a proper map, more rooms, and definitely more traps. ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

Submitted

Day 18: Still catching up! This is a cool magic item that may have "interesting" implications for your entire campaign ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

Day 19: Master Thieves. 3 enigmatic thief NPCs to get hired by the party - or rob them. Sort of in the vein of my Prismatic Knights post.

Yeah, I missed a bunch of days due to life events. It's fine, it's about the journey not the destination. This is still the most consistent I've been with a writing challenge in a long time lol

Submitted

Erin the Rat is definitely my fav outta the three! ๐Ÿ€

HostSubmitted

I love all of these!

HostSubmitted

Day 20: oh gosh, we almost made it!

I fleshed out a system to generate fencing/swordfighting academies!

https://dicegoblin.blog/adventure-calendar-20-schools-of-swordplay/

Submitted

You can never have enough random tables! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Day 20: the end of combat. Next, I'll have to figure out how to change the monster stat blocks.

Day 20: Coin of Destiny. Trying to make D&D 5e more interesting by introducing the most poorly-thought-out meta-currency you've ever seen. It works at my home table where we are screwing around. Try at home at your own risk.

Submitted

Day 19: An unyielding paladin of the deep! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Submitted

Day 20: A high level druid/dragon hybrid for you to put in your OSE game! ๐Ÿฒ

Submitted

Day 21: An illusion Spell for OSE! Scare your eenemies with the definitely not fake visage of a white dragon! ๐Ÿ˜…

Day 21 and Day 22. getting difficult as we close in on the end. Here's just the modified list of conditions to match all my previous edits, and a stat block for the first monster in the book =)

Submitted

Great stuff, keep it up! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Thanks!

Submitted

Day 22: Wang Tur'ban is at it again; a magical experiment to mix and blend all sorts of creatures! ๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿพโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ

HostSubmitted

Almost there everyone! Yesterday's late entry:

https://dicegoblin.blog/adventure-calendar-22-rules-for-climbing/

Submitted (2 edits)

Life caught up with me. Between getting a job and moving, I finally had time to take a breather and sit in front of my computer. I don't have high hopes of catching up on 12-ish late entries, but I might as well try!

Here's my day 11 entry: The Beasthead - Sacrifice your body to take over an entire pack of animals, for as long as your shattered psyche can hold on to reality!

And here's day 12: Fortresshead - a weird-urban district of Law and Bureaucracy ripe for bounty-hunting work.

HostSubmitted(+1)

Almost there!

23: Not really a banger, just sharing some rough notes for a Jam I didn't end up participating in. Going out with a bang tomorrow!

https://dicegoblin.blog/adventure-calendar-23-town-forest-dungeon/

Submitted(+2)

I'm done with my final entry! Now I just need to do some editing and layout, hopefully have some time for that during Christmas.

The Rock Face

Happy holidays!

Submitted

Hell yeah! Hope to see more stuff from you in the future ๐Ÿ˜Ž

HostSubmitted

And thus, the Adventure Calendar is complete. Happy holidays, one and all!

https://dicegoblin.blog/adventure-calendar-24-the-best-of-the-rest/

Submitted (2 edits)

Rat mail! Spider mail! Smoke mail! Light mail!

For my day 13 entry, here are four alternative postal services for your weird urbancrawl needs, and a D6x4 table for mail mishaps!

Day 23 and Day 24. not much time with family arriving for Xmas, so there are smaller sections on traveling speed and finally, resting and leveling up! Hard to believe I did something for every day. I should participate in more jams for motivation for sure =)

Submitted

Day 23: Happy Holidays to all! Here's a Metal Gear/Dragon monster for OSE (it seems like I've drawn a lot of dragon cards, but oh well ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพ)

Day 23: Pyre Rock. Wizard prison filled with wacky characters. Kind of half-baked but I like the concept enough that this post will probably get a bunch of edits later. My last post for the jam. I think I got more than half?

Love to everyone who participated and congratulations on beating me out on consistency no matter who you are lol <3

Submitted

Come on man, give us Day 24! You can do it ๐Ÿ˜ค

Submitted

Day 24: The last one! A sniggy snake who really enjoys outdoor grilling ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ

Day 24: Mix-and-Match Dragonborn. A system for generating random variation among dragonborn characters. Not exactly going out with a bang but I wanted to make one more thing. Will try to figure out how itch.io works so I can actually submit something. <3
