Ah, the hardcore picross for real gamers
I unfortunately encountered the audio glitch on my own, it sounds like the volume meter might be multiplying the audio rather than setting it? Honestly pretty funny when it happened while streaming to a few friends.
Anyways, I also suck at picross so I wasn't able to get very far on my own. But programming it at all seems like a technical feat in the first place, and it's a unique entry especially in that I don't think I've ever seen Touhou picross, somehow. My main critiques are that I would have liked to see what I got wrong and what the completed image was, but it seems like you've gotten plenty of informative feedback already. Interesting work!
picross
i have done this before
it is more difficult here
and for some reason x isnt on right click
and i have no idea what it is drawing
but its still neat
Seems nice.
Never played picross before. I spent 3 hours on the game and self-learned a couple neat deduction skills.
Despite my newfound skills, I'm stucc on the third level of the 2nd set...
And I don't want to skip, so uh. RIP story time for me lol
I guess I'll come back to it once I'm done rating all the other games first.
EDIT: Came back. Spent 2 more hours on the puzzle I left off. Did not make good progress.
This is as far as I can go with only deduction, I believe the rest: I have to resort to following through hypotheses, which is really tedious without an undo button. I swear this one puzzle is an immense difficulty spike.
This game was very fun but extremely challenging. I had played picross in the past but didn't know much strategy so I really struggled. I had to use the solutions as hints to solve most of the levels past the first set. Also, when you complete 3-1 the game goes to a black screen so I was unable to complete that set of stages.
The visuals are nice, with pretty images of Doremy and Sagume and multiple versions of Sagume representing her at different times in the past.
The music was good but got repetitive because the game took me several hours to complete.
The story and writing are good and I'm intrigued, but not exactly sure what's going on. That's exacerbated by the inability to progress past 3-1, so 1/4 of the cutscenes I never got to see.
I'm not sure how well the game actually ties in to the theme, since I'm not sure what's going on in the story.
Haven't heard of picross before, but I had a lot of fun with it. There's a bug after being World 3, Stage 1 where the screen goes black. Furthermore, some of the puzzles are impossible to solve "normally" (without looking several steps ahead, or trying something and backtracking if it doesn't work several steps later) and may have multiple solutions (only one of which is recognized as valid). I found one in stage 2, and two more in stage 4.
Only got to see 3/4ths of the story (since world 3 is unbeatable), but I really liked the art and writing as well. Would be interested in seeing the end to world 3.
Some other nitpicks:
- When completing a level, it transitions instantly, so I have no idea what image I completed.
- Having mouse centric controls would be nice: LMB for filling, RMB for X-ing, so it can be played with just the mouse.
I went from not knowing how to play Picross to wanting to play a ton more. I'll be hitting the Switch Online Picross games after this. Nice job!
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to run on Linux (with WINE). Would it be possible to get a Linux version? I've not played much picross, so I figured this would be a good opportunity.
