Pretty cool to play around with actually. I spent like 10 minutes in the experience.

In this experimental build there's no win condition. nor real stage or obstacles to really test the gameplay with.

You can also never get caught with the lantern off.

So guess what? I imagined that Kyouko is the actual stalker! LOL
Echolocate Kogasa, carefully move right on top of her, and then BOO! Lantern on her head! I like to think I've out-surprised the surprise master.
Developer

If she touch you while moving toward your last known position, she can still spook you even with your lantern off (the lantern will be toggled on for the animation). I quite like the idea of you being the chaser. And a more fleshed-out experience even with a really simple objective would have been a lot better.

If i had a cent for every touhou game jam game where kyouko is the victim i'd have 2 cents, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice (the other one was in bird jam).

Neat concept though without a goal there isn't really much to do. The simplest thing to do with this idea is to just have the usual horror game gameplay of having to find stuff around the map to progress while avoiding the monster. Which i think could work very well with this game's mechanics.

Developer

It was either kyouko (as she’s echo-based), or one of the other sound-based youkai (luna child ?). Yeah, had I started earlier with that idea (and been more motivated), then making a fetch-based objective would have been a logical choice. I started with this idea of an echo system, but didn’t know where to go with it until much later when I started making the horror mechanic.

I am a bit confused so the game is about not getting caught?

Developer

It’s hardly a game, there is no objective so yeah. You just move around around with your lantern or try to be sneaky by using sound reflection to avoid Kogasa. I wanted to make a game based around echolocation but didn’t have much inspiration.

Cool concept. I can't believe Kogasa is actually scary

Developer

Be careful she can bite.
