Wow. This Misty Lake is lots of trouble. Must be annoying to live in it, especially if you have to swim a way back.

The mechanic is just really fun once you understand it. Which didn't occur to me until I got past the first obstacle. And huh... I did get stuck for a few minutes there. Like, the speed boost provided by these sparkles? I didn't notice them. I just picked them up, took my sweet time into the riptide and couldn't figure out why I got halfway there the first time.

But when you figure out the sparkles are subtle speed boosters? I gets super fun, it could become a speedrunner's game!

The Misty Lake Neighborhood Association has noted your concerns.

I've never played ecco the dolphin, but I gues this has a similar vibe to it, hated it at first because I didn't know you needed to speed up to jump, the way waka moves when she's stuck its quite comical xD.

This really needs a start that explains how the speed works, thats the only flaw I see.

Developer(+1)

I'll make sure to properly present the need for speed going forward XD

Took a bit to get the hang of the physics, but quite fun afterwards - bubble zones were annoying at first because of how much they slowed Waka's velocity (and sometimes getting through them successfully felt unpredictable), definitely appreciated their placement on the way back though. The realization upon getting the gay pearl that I was going to have to traverse the level backwards, and the fact that the level actually worked well both forwards and backwards, was pretty cool too.

Mermaid x maid isn't a ship I've seen before but I can appreciate the pun involved. Also that #^_^# face was cute.

Yes the countercurrents run, er, counter to the feel I was going for so I'll need to play with that.

Thanks!

Nice li'l game. I see this kind of as an underwater Sonic. My favorite part is jumping over chunks of land.

saame, I love it when I go whoooosh

Developer

That's the idea!

The physics mechanics may be awkward and confusing and first, but once you build momentum (literally) you will get the flow of the movement and it feels really satisfying to speed swim through levels. I would suggest adding indicators or arrows at the background to tell you where to go since some parts you are suppose to traverse through land. This is also the perfect game to add a timer to challenge speed runs. Really solid concept for a game.

Developer

The swim feeling was the most important part to me, and I wanted to encourage speeding through more instead of this stop-and-go wandery way I ended up going. I intended to have some time-specific endings as well as a timer at least at the end, but as things are now Sakuya doesn't complain no matter how long you take. XD

I should also mention that it is not very clear on what the crystals do exactly. I assuming that they provide a speed boost?

Developer

Sorry ;^_^ Yeah, they make you move faster and also significantly increase dash power, so they're very important to getting through the currents and jumping over the surface land.

I think the physics are really interesting to explore in this game.

In the beginning I didn't know what I should do, but after I collect the sparkles, I started having a lot of fun.
Also I love the detail that If you are fast enought, you can go back to where Sakuya was jumping through the ravines

I'm glad you enjoyed the shortcuts! :D

Pretty fun! Gotta admit it took me a little while to figure out what the collectibles were for. Music was very atmospheric too.

Developer

Thanks! I'm sorry the collectables were so unclear for everyone. ^^

For the music I meant it to transition into a more action-y exciting thing, but I kind of just ran out of steam at one point and didn't work on the game further.

Cool aesthetic, reminds me of Ecco. also like ecco i got stuck at the beginning really easily help how do i dash through the bubbles

Developer

Ecco is a very lovely but brutal game series. XD

Those glowing things you can pick up make you temporarily swim and dash faster. With those and repeatedly dashing, you should be able to get through the bubbles. Also it helps to hold down the dash button between dashes instead of instantly releasing it.

I had a lot of difficulty playing this game due to my generally being bad at video games, but what I did see was nice

Developer

Thank you! Maybe I should think more about difficulty range when making these games instead of just going "this feels about right lol". ^^
