Yeah, it gets tough quick. It will actually slow down for a while after that barrage (and repeat the cycle, though it's never as slow as it is to begin with). If I were putting more than 3 hours into it, I'd probably put a little intelligence into the barrage and make it avoid throwing skulls when it's in barrage mode. I got lucky when I caught 78 - I had two barrages in a row where the potions were sort of clumped together and there weren't many skulls.
