Developer

Thank you all for the excellent feedback. I have uploaded the final build for this Trijam, which fixes many issues, but there are still more.

What's been added;

  • A new variation of the invaders.
  • Ship destruction animation.
  • The equation is now easy, medium and hard, with more points for completing the more complex equations.
  • I fixed several bugs, including invaders, which will respawn if all are destroyed.

This has been a fun game jam.

It is a nice little game :)

I had troubles with fullscreen mode - the equation is not visible :(

Thanks for the feedback.

Full screen was not something I checked, I will add it to the list of checks for the future.

Aight cool one tho, love space invaders, thanks for this one.

Doing the right equation is tricky, as my first number picked was not a multiple of the result. I like so much your disclaimer of feedback and wanting to learn more, as this shows a good spirit.

Some feedback and bugs:

I realised the ship collider its a little too big - I have been hit in my left side when a projectile went through, also collected numbers too early by trying to shoot them right below.

All equiations go with "? + ? * ? = r". That multiplication its too tricky, as you may get a random result too low not to be multiplied for something not bigger than 2. You could try to start with a "? + ? = r" equation and follow with the original one (or even go for "? + ? -  ? = r" and so on).

Stay hard! :)

Thanks for the feedback is much appreciated.

In the original design, in my head, I was going to randomise the order and number of operations, so when designing the game, I started with an equation that was easy to test the concept. If I get time to update, will it have an easy, medium and hard mode, with easy being "? +? = r", then increase the difficulty equation with each completed round.

Colliders are interesting, and I had already made the ship's collider smaller than the ship because it was too easy to clip bolts and numbers from the side when the ship was moving.

Cool take on the theme, but it would be cool if it was endless.

Developer(+1)

The game is endless, except for the bug (that I guess you found). If you run out of aliens to kill, the game stalls. Otherwise, if you get correct answers and avoid losing lives, the game will reset each correct equation.

I am glad that you like the theme.

The game's speed was fine with me. If I picked a bad number, I wish there was some item I could get to undo. Otherwise I just have to continue to fail. I like it forces me to do arithmetic, so if you were to make more happen within the game it would put some fun pressure on.

Developer(+1)

That was one aim of the game to force you to do arithmetic and that bad decisions, ie picking up the wrong number, has consequences. But your point is something I was having issues with deciding, at the moment not sure what the answer could be, a simple undo might take away too much jeopardy in catching, avoiding or destroying the numbers.

Thank you for your feedback.

A quick fix has been uploaded, fixed some of the too-fast issues, and change the screen dimensions to help.

Submitted(+1)

Interesting little game! The game was too fast for me but I still enjoyed it. Good job!

Had the same Issue, it was over in something around 5 seconds :P

Thanks for your feedback. I still needed more time to refine the difficulty. I wanted to put in EASY, MEDIUM and HARD equations levels, but with too much time spent, I released with medium equations as is. After the game jam I am going, to go back and fix the difficulty curve.

Developer(+1)

I just did a quick test I can see that it is running much faster than it was in my editor (was just too tired to test when upload it this morning). Thanks for the feedback, I try to get fix to that.
