Did your team create most/all of the graphics yourselves?

Yes

Did your team create most of/all the audio yourselves?

No

How did you incorporate the theme "COMBINATION"?
The Devil's Gambit is a math game where the main mechanic is to combine numbers and operators to create new numbers. The main key points being combine and create. I think that incorporates the theme pretty well.

What a super polished game this is!  I love the way the art and the post processing came together to make this really cool aesthetic.  Unfortunately I wasn't able to really do much because my ultra wide monitor resolution kind of messed up the play area and wouldn't let me see the numbers I'd place down.

Developer

I am really sorry to hear that :( I really didn't think that screen ratios would cause an issue. I will make sure to fix them after the jam.

But thank you so much for playing despite the glitch!

Interesting approach! I little hard to wrap my head around at first, but once I got the hang of it, it was pretty fun. Love the shaders / post processing. Great job!

Really glad you liked it! :D

Great theme implementation! I love the simplicity of the game, and matching it up with the post-process effect makes it even better. Awesome work. This game is somewhat similar to my GMTK entry where you pick a number and operator to reach a certain number.

Developer

I tried to find similar games but didn't find anything. I will surely try it!

Cool theme interpretation :) I liked reading about the lore.

Despite the simple GUI, the post-processing effects are giving it a really nice touch and in general I'm loving the style!

Here are some suggestions:

  • Make the draggable and the non-draggable elements in the game look different. I was confused at first about why the numbers in the center were not moving.
  • The info how to play info is amazing, but it's not totally clear to me how the color of the result is determined. Is it always the first digit?
  • The currency and score being the same thing is an interesting concept, but I'd have used something else other than money. Considering the lore, maybe "hearts", or "corruption", or something similar would fit a bit more nicely.

Next time consider adding a browser version too to reach a greater audience! All in all, a cool and polished game, congrats!

Yes, the colors are a little bit confusing. I should've changed them somehow.

Did you read the score tab in the info panel? I described most of it in there. It's a little bit confusing. And since I couldn't add any visual feedback it's a bit hard to tell what's matched.

That's a cool idea. It didn't cross my mind. XD

And yes I know. My first and only target was webgl build. But the build was giving me a lot of errors. Mainly because browsers can't read local files. Reading a pretty big json is a core component of the game. So yeah. And by the time I fixed it, the deadline ended and updates were closed :(

Thank you for the feedback!!

Great use of the theme! Would have loved to play with the num key pad.

Developer

Glad you liked it! I though about adding numpad support. Maybe in a future update if I ever open this project again :v
