I really like the concept of mashing up hangman and a platformer.
That said, I kind of wish you'd leaned more into the hangman side. Grabbing bits felt way easier than cycling through letters, even once I knew which letter it had to be. Part of that was that the enemies/mouse cursors were so aggressive that I ended going backwards by mistake as I dodged them.
The theming is... weird, but I like it!
Thank you for your feedback!
Cool concept, tho I felt passive here.
I just had to click and die. Nothing more, which is simple, but there are a lot of letters and I found myself holding left for half a minute till I get the correct one.
Also, a low jump here would be cool.
Well done!
Thanks for your feedback!
You can also collect the bits to reveal one. This way you can get an idea of the word before you complete the last characters dying.
This tactic of just moving through all characters works for guessing a random word but is quite slow.
However, it won't give you a good time in the speedrun since dying is penalized by 1 second every time you die.
I see. So, I think the speedrun should be the main game and have the other be casual imo.
I agree with you. Random is more of a casual mode.
It's timed as well if you really want to, but having a different word every time makes it unfair for comparison between runs.
This was a really creative idea, and it worked well too! The gameplay was a little confusing at first, but after a while I got the hang of it, and it was actually pretty smooth to control, so good work! The stats in the top left were a nice addition too, especially the possible combinations one. One problem was that the game is too chance-based, I think - there's not really a viable strategy other than collecting all the bits and just getting a letter that way instead (Though the one time I did correctly guess a letter was satisfying). Overall it was a cool concept, and it was implemented well, so good job!
Many thanks for your feedback!
To counter the randomness, there will spawn green bits (0 and 1's) around the level. If you collect 8 of them you will get 1 correct character.
They spawn randomly within 10 seconds, but if you get one a new one will spawn immediately.
This way it's a bit encouraged to stay alive as well. It can really help to get the first few characters of the word.
When you know what character you want dying could be the faster method if you are already close to the correct one.
As Rileys Legacy already suggested, I should have made a tutorial level ;)
I love the sound design and the cool look, this is probably the most creative concept I've played for the jam. Super different, and the emphasis for speedrunning was a smart move, it fits this game really well. I think teaching this game to the new player is pretty tough, just cause there are a lot of moving parts, and if you decide to develop this more I think nailing the tutorial will help a lot for a full release. Great idea, and well executed.
Thanks a lot for your feedback!
I completely agree with you. Unfortunately, I did not have much time work on it on Monday. Therefore I did not have time to implement a real tutorial level. I should probably have done it when I was testing the controls already. But doing it at the end would have taken too much time.
To at least have something I just really quickly implemented some pictures and text as a tutorial ;)
I would like to add a better one to the game when the Jam is over!
Cool Concept!
Thanks!
Just a question, did you notice you can grab 8 bits (green 1's and 0's) to get a correct character?
I let my friends play just before the deadline and they didn't look at the "how to play" section and did not notice this before I told them.
I tried to emphasize it more by putting it in the description as well, and want to know if that's enough ;)
Thanks for playing my game!
I really liked your Pingüino as well!
Yea I did but some of them were hard to get since they are randomly placed and the controls are a bit difficult to use, But overall it was pretty challenging and fun! :-D
Thanks!
