Unfortunately, at this time, we don’t have the necessary documents in place to collect the classification of your content for taxation purposes. As a result, the default rate applied to all digital downloads is currently in effect. In the future, we plan to introduce a legal document that you can use to classify your page.

Thank you. I'm a customer not a publisher. For now I will confine my custom to sites that charge the correct VAT.

To benefit from special tax rates, there would need to be a system that ensures that once a special item was offered there would be no way to change the offered items.

Right now, you purchase access to a project. You do not purchase an eBook.

That on that project page currently is a single eBook does not change this. What if the publisher decides to put up a rpg game based on the rpg book on the same page? Or other digital files that do not have the same special tax rate. Or things like individually priced bonus files, a soundtrack maybe, on a pay what you want book project.

I assume those "legal documents" would include such a commitment for the project page.

Interesting, and obviously an issue. From a tabletop game player perspective it looks like I am purchasing a product and not project access so perhaps that needs to be made clearer.

I get the problem, I'm on several Patreon and it seems obvious there why I pay VAT on my subscriptions.

I wonder how many others have been introduced to Itch by crowdfunding projects delivering rewards, and, like me, don't fully understand how this platform is designed to work?
