It wasn't explained super well in the game, but the goal is to shoot and destroy those balls, and then it'll fly you down to the core when you go over the top again. In the middle you have to destroy the pillars, and then fly out, and you get a little cutscene. I'll add it to the description because I've had a couple people confused about the win condition.
