Awesome, do you have an idea for this jam? I am a complete newby to game jams so I would like to not only do the music, but kind-of learn the workflow and such going into these things
In my experience, even if it's a full week-long jam. It is preferable to do a simple concept with highly restricted audiovisual content.
I have a base template I made for my pixel art games, of 512x288 pixels (16:9 ratio, from 32x32 px. squares).
Besides that, I start by selecting a color palette that relates to the emotion I wanted to convey. Usually I use one with between 8 to 24 colors, choosing it from Lospec.
Since you already work with chiptune, it should ensure that the music has the right fit.
What other kind of thing do you want to work on during the jam?
Chiptune is music that I haven't dabbled with, but not as much as i would like; absolutely agree it would be best for the resolution though and I would like to try more chiptunes out! I like the idea of making a color palette first; I like to associate color with mood and music.
I made my profile picture and the album art (64 bit) which was my first time doing pixel art and i think it turned out well. I can minorly help there if need be. I consume a lot of various video games, so I can help playtest, come up with concepts, etc, but mostly prefer to stick to music as much as possible. Sound fxs/sound design I do not have much any experience in so I would be starting fresh and unsure how i would go about it yet.
