I said its legal to fork the project, not to post it on itch claiming that I stole it from you

Deleted post

-_- u two are confusing me... so from what I can gather here 18 Aliens didnt code his game himself? instead took it from someone else (forking) to make his game? and you (the_man_official) are trying to teach him a lesson by doing the same to him?

(1 edit)

No what happened was I tried very hard to get the scripts to work but they didnt, so I checked out another game that had a similar mechanic to see how to make it work properly. I never took the entire project and posted it and claimed it was mine. It was just a little bit of script help. You cant say I stole it when the script is just "touch a thing to increase number". If I took a custom animation script that would be something else, but using a public rotation script is not stealing an entire game. If someone wanted to use my scripts to make their game work that would be fine, but stealing someones entire project, posting it, pretending to be them, lying, and saying you are going to commit fraud is very different. Its like building a car. Using some different pieces here and there is different than just buying a brand new car.

ok so was that project from the_man_official? is that why he's doing this?

I mean... copying snippets of code is pretty common (heck I graduated software engineering copy-pasting code from the internet). as long as you try to make it your own I guess its fine, on the other hand if that person didnt want his code to be copied he shouldnt have made it available to the public. unless he had no choice and thats just how playcanvas works... I dunno never tried it before.

No it was from a very bad unfinished school game made by a random guy which was his only project.

Its not like its a secret I just didnt think it really mattered. Looking for scripts to make your very first 3d game work properly is different from stealing an entire project.

ok, but why are you doing this?

Cuz hes a jerk. He threatened to swat me, constantly spammed me, and said he was going to "experiment" on my friend (who has cancer btw) by raping her and getting her pregnant. He is a lying asshole that is gaining literally nothing from this. He even made an entire discord server about hating my friend. He has no moral standards.

ok, just for reference how old are you both?

I would second that request. Because At this point is seems like the two of you should talk to some kind of professional. Depending on your ages and what’s true or not that’s either:

  • your parents (in a group)
  • a guidance counselor
  • a psychologist
  • a lawyer or two

Let me start by saying: “I’m not a lawyer, but…”

By uploading Ravioli Burglar Simulator that is exactly what you’ve done, The_Man_Official. You cannot just take someone’s original work as a whole and publish it wherever you feel like. If you’re not licensed by the original creator that’s a form of copyright offence. If you want to know the exact specifics, talk to a specialized lawyer.

As for 18 Aliens looking at another person’s code to fix an issue with their own game: I think morally that’s fair game. If I understand them correctly they didn’t nick an entire mechanic but rather looked at how a rather basic mechanic worked elsewhere and made corrections to their own code based on that knowledge. Also: It would be very hard to prove any of what they did in a court of law - while your DMCA claim worthy action is already in a lot of logs as well as possibly on archive.org.

Look… I can maybe not say what exactly happened between the two of you. But I can tell that if both of you stay on the course you are currently on, it will end in tears for one of you - well, at least one of you. Probably the one who basically already admitted to breaching international law. Publicly.

But I’m sure that’s all just my opinion and it will all work out perfectly fine for you…

Like I (preemptively) said: I’m sure that’s all just my opinion and it will all work out perfectly fine for you…

But I find it noteworthy that you latch onto the part that’s about the only thing that had nothing to do with you while ignoring the rest of my post.

I’ll be offline now, so you do not have to feel rushed to answer. Take some time and think about what you are going to say next…

Ok where am I supposed to ask for permission

My personal understanding at this point in time is this: You looked at another person’s code to fix an issue with their own game. You they didn’t nick an entire mechanic but rather looked at how a rather basic mechanic worked elsewhere and made corrections to their own code based on that knowledge. You just chose to do so by looking at a finished project rather than a tutorial.

If my understanding of that part of… the current situation is correct I think you’re fine - legally and morally. If it was a bit more than that or maybe you just want to thank the person whose publicly available code helped you on a early step of your career, just contact that games developer, explain how their code helped you with your free project and ask them if they want to be credited and how. Most game developers are pretty cool, passionate people. :) They will probably be happy to hear that their work helped you. (Just don’t bother them with… The other stuff that’s going on in this thread.)

lol ig I have split personalities

The fact that you said it at all is very ban worthy. And you still posted MY game.
