What I liked

  • You made this with Pygame. I explored this, but ended up choosing an engine rather than a library.
  • Particles effects.  They're simple, but fit visually.
  • Respawning in the same room that you died in.
  • It felt like you put thought into the layout and progression of the game based on powerup placements and the obstacles they disable.

Improvements/Suggestions

  • One life is pretty brutal. I feel like a minimum of three hits is needed. As a player, one hit is usually used to assess the level/enemies/difficulty of what is ahead. If you didn't respawn in the same room, I probably wouldn't have played long.
  • Controls felt really off, especially when you need to use the kick ability to make bigger jumps. If I had to make a long, vertical jump, i had to press three buttons simultaneously. That didn't really feel right.

Overall, you did a good job. Congrats on submitting!

Thanks so much! I very much agree on the kick. I was trying to make a ability that would give a lot of movement flexibility, but I ended up not teaching it to the player very well and more so used it as a more powerful jump. I think that it should have been a jump upgrade/double jump that used the same key. It is also too difficult. You always forget that you are the best player at your game. Have a great day.
