I unfortunately didn't really understand the controls, and the game felt slow and unresponsive.

Some sound design or responsive UI would definitely help, because I was spamming the buttons without nothing happening, so I thought it was glitched until I figured that I had to click on the dice first.

The text cooldown is really slow and painful at base speed, and the speed selector only updates on the next dialogue, and sometimes not update at all, which is quite frustrating. Some way to skip the text would be really neat, because it is the antithesis of fun to have to wait  20 seconds when done reading the dialogue.

For the up-down scroll, it is inverted and unintuitive. You should probably follow the conventions to make it logical and intuitive.

Id like to review the actual story and game, but everything around it keeps distracting me, and not in a good way. As dumb as it sounds, I think the first step to making a great Novel / VN game is to have a good UI design, as unnoticeable as possible, so the player can enjoy the story in full.

Anyway, props on submitting to the game jam!

Thank you for trying it out and your critique.

The game feeling slow i can understand, the reason i didn't implement a skip button was so that the ai component has a chance to challenge for an action as well. I can see, how it would improve the feeling tho. I hate having to wait for dialogue in videogames even if it's voiced, so idk why i implemented it this way lol.

I didn't even notice that i made the scrolling inverted. It felt natural enough to me, but now that you say it.... At least that one is an easy fix.

And i did aim for an "unnoticeable" minimalistic UI design. The challenge popup overlays the story so that it draws the attention, but otherwise i wanted to keep the focus on the text. I guess the felt unresponsiveness didn't make it any better.

And for sound design/music i simply ran out of time, but thats my bad. For a text based game i thought no sound was better than bad sound, so i didn't wanna rush something lol.

Thanks again for the constructive critique. I'll see how to improve upon it :)
