adult games are forbidden in germany on steam?

(+4)

Yes, because Steam doesn't make Users verify their ages when buying products indended for adults (18+). So in theory an underage Person could buy adult content, which the gov didn't like. Hence the government required Steam to hide products that contain sexual content in Germany.

this makes me glad i live next door in the netherlands cause that realy sucks

thats why im hopping you still update the game on itchio when it comes to steam or give itchio buyers steam keys when they can proof that they buyed the game because we can still activate steam keys and update/downloade this games

He will surely update itch.io version as well, as there are people who bought it here :)

Oh no :(

You got all our support in this dark situation, German neighbor.

Sounds like extra steps and payments when the developer could simply keep it on itch

Wait Really. But do you not need to give in your age?

That is a big yikes tbh, as Steam even has that feature built in, seems like it is a leftover feature from backwhen it didn't have that feature

Strange since I've been asked to verify my age on steam multiple times back when I mostly played on PC. Especially the legacy of kain collection

yes exactly the german authorities wanted steam to make an age verification for games from 18. but since steam didn't want to go to all the trouble with the age they blocked the games in germany even though they are legally allowed but steam doesn't give us access anymore so i'm always happy when people like you make games on itchio so that i can still play such games.

I mean how is it an issue is it more complicated than the yes/no age verification because the USA Steam already has that. Do they want people's actual ID's or something?

(1 edit) (+2)

to prove our identity we have to show our identity card which is then scanned and it is then deposited by the system after confirmation on your account this is the most used variant but there are also simple ways but I can not describe exactly because these do not occur so often but yes they have changed the text in the meantime even it is now called "that these games are not available at the moment" normally should be games like cyberpunk etc which are also from 18 already be blocked because these also meet the criteria so I hope very much that the game will continue to come out on itchio or we get a key or something because these we can still activate wants to see more of the game and find it just therefore very sad that steam is not trying to insert this age confirmation especially because the state just says make the age verification pure and I can continue as before because the games are not banned only the sale without age verification

i used a translator sry if somthing is wrong xD

That is dystopian as Hell

That makes more sense. If the gov is requiring an id verification since steam would then have to change their eula to include personal identifiable information. That would earn them a lawsuit in many countries including the USA and Canada.
