Love the theme and aesthetic but just can't get into the gameplay 

Yeah, same here, although I only played once ;-) But I usually get a feel for things. It looks beautiful and the crispy sounds work a charm. But, somehow, it goes to fast and is too cryptic. Although, arguably, after some practice you might recognize stuff faster.

But, all in all, it's a really well executed and original take on the genre!

I'm working on a new tutorial that's a lot more direct, just a straight line showcasing one new gameplay element at a time.

That would definitely help and maybe add some tutorial assignments so you can get used to all the mechanics. For instance on how to avoid an enemy in combination with those one-way direction flipping nodes.

What did you find off-putting? too fast, too difficult, something else?
