The list of channels/playlists about pixel-art (some of them contains only several videos about pixel art):

Books:

  • Pixel Logic. You can't download it legally for free so I DON'T RECOMMEND you to download it from pirate sites or aggregators such an anna's archive (that contain it).....

Sites:

If you would like to know, I am going to start learning procedural/generative art in future (it is not about AI. it is about creating program that creates art from random seed)

Hey dustdfg!

Thank you so much for the comprehensive list of youtube channels! Pure awesomeness! I am familiar with a just a few on the list in particular AdamCYounis- he is legendary haha! I love Pixel Overload too! SO grateful for your in depth and wonderful reply!

I actually have a PDF of pixel logic too !!! (It's so amazing right??!!!) and I am so glad you recommended paying for it and supporting the awesome pixelers that made it with love!~ I really wanted a physical copy of the book too since I refer to it so much but unfortunately I haven't seen it for sale in Australia and I was going to print it out but because it's so big it was going to cost a lot. I hope there is a physical book someday- there deserves to be.

I would like to learn more about procedural/generative art too! I think the process of making art is going through an evolution atm and excited to be on board with that!

I wanted to share with you a special website I found! (If you haven't found it already).
https://www.spriters-resource.com/

It is really useful for working out and learning how sprite sheets are presented/seeing beautiful pixels.

About Pixel Logic "recommendation". Yeah I recommended it but...
Did I recommend to buy it? No, more likely no than yes. I don't like to recommend to buy something (especially proprietary) but I can't just say where you can find some not program stuff illegally (🏴‍☠️ )...

About genart (I also include here procedural level generation). I know about it really not much but I will share the resource...

First of all, I recommend you to start from random level generation because it is an incredible base. Then... uhmm.. I have a poor list of topics but don't know the order....

The list:

  • Marching cubes
  • L-systems (allow to create flora such trees or leafs; as I heard also levels...)
  • Noises (make something more natural)
  • Shaders (Programs so it can do everything)
  • Wave function collapse / Model synthesis (The cheapest method to create something procedurally for those who can create something by hands. Just watch the following videos: 1 and 2)
  • I think math. Linear algebra is most common (3Blue1Brown: Linear Algebra)

As an additional link if you eventually know Russian language, you can watch it https://www.youtube.com/c/foo52ru

I didn't understand the uniqueness of spriters-resource site.

I also found one good introduction to shaders
