I enjoyed it. I found a pattern that helped me win. Could be a fun Pac-man like game with multiple levels/layouts.

OH MAN! This is awesome! I love the fog and light ability.  Great job.

Great tutorial/demo! Game has unique control scheme. Daughter loved it too.

This was really cool. Different take on flappy games. My daughter loved it. Music was neat too!

HERE IT IS! So stoked after watching/talking in the community about this.

AmeriKaboom (Cartoon Violence) by ac-cool-breeze (itch.io)

Finished... in the smallest sliver of time.. Had an issue with a collision spawner that rendered me dead in the water the last hour.

Feels good.

So the 4th of July happened. Then the work week also happened. Had to code an app. Anyway. Almost done with the last feature... the freedom power. After that a simple boss fight and some more decoration of the map.

The Freedom power: Bald eagle with A10 Gatling guns...

Day 5:

I have no idea why I added a driving portion... I figure maybe it could help you get to the objectives quicker.

And I have added some more art from the asset pack. I think I will need to devote an entire day or two to just decorating the play ground.:

I will be going out of town for the holiday for FREEdom day. Will take laptop and see what I can do. Hope to get some progress.

Day 4:

Made some solid progress. Enough to say that I have a small game loop. I can rescue civilians, kill the red devil commies, and even start my first platforming jump puzzle. I think I will down shift from 3 levels to one. Getting the first set of goals completed : killing red devils and rescue civilians. If I can get a decorated map with those goals plus the secret last quest then I will expand it more.

First platformer puzzle:

Saving civilians:

Red devil attack animation /lose scenario:

Finally, aiming and accurate shooting with machine gun

I hope to get some good decorating done tomorrow during work and breaks. See you guys tomorrow!

Don't forget to ring that FREEdom bell!

Saw this in the Discord. Loved the new fog/depth added. Spooky!

Day 3

Got some progress.  Added some animations, sounds, and almost complete with base game play loop. Almost time to bring in the FREEdom.

Weapon firing and damage are setup: Just need to set up the rest of the weapons. Also, remove the debugging I was doing.

Weapon switching: Still need to set up all of the other weapons. Only the machine gun and rocket launcher work right now.

Enemy basic AI: still need to get the attack trigger/animation set up.

Day 2-

Wow, I did not get much done today. Family was busy all day. When I broke away while they napped I was able to get some animations setup and the explosions working. Going to set up the bad guy's animation tomorrow. I am not as good at loading animations, building out the blueprints. I was hoping for a stretch to enable the player to choose between like 30 characters that came in this pack. I had to save the animations off with the skin which forced it to this dude.

Hopefully, you can break away and get some more polish. I lay awake at night thinking about working on the game while trying to goto sleep with the family.

Day 1-

Got simple menu set up, some free assets imported, and basic weapon logic setup. The player can pick up, equip/unequip a rocket launcher, and fire it. Still gotta setup the empoison and damage. Then I need to animate the player, enemy, and set up enemy logic.

The game you made in a day, maybe two tops?

I believe only the moderators can tell you why you were banned form the discord. Sorry.

Well yeah, it is a poor subject to gamify.

  • Use of hate themes or symbols in any jam spaces will result in permanent ban from the game jam.

You would be gamifying an act of terrorism. Many countries, I would imagine all, would have some act of terrorism that has occurred that would sour their opinion about your game.

Honestly, it just seems "trollish" to pursue the idea.

Well, I think the game idea is in poor taste, but not bannable ( I am just a participant, not associated with mods at all). Additionally, the more adult oriented one would require a sort of NSFW tag. Maybe that is why you got banned. What ousting and vilification? Did you post pictures or anything?

('freeing' of WTC).  World trade center? I am not tracking what you mean. Doesn't seem like a valid reason to be banned. Could you explain what you meant by freeing and what WTC stood for?

Same. I have been brainstorming all day, distracted from work. I started gathering a list of free assets to use when I get done with the initial blocking tomorrow.

Hello,

This is my first game jam ever. Creating placeholder for the devlog.

Brainstorming:

  • Platformer
  • Small design, 3 levels.
  • Use the theme as a comedic effect, FREEdom!

Tomorrow I will start the UE4 project folder. After I verify the time is good. I hope to get a quick setup going tomorrow. Quick main menu, run from start to end of the three levels, and an end game placeholder scene.

Edit:  Also, there will be cartoon violence with explosions and  rocket launchers.

🦅🍔🍟🤠FREEdom🤠🍟🍔🦅... I am excited.

They said the day before. Still have 4 hours before it is the day before. I understand the anticipation to get brainstorming. Stay patient friend

I stay motivated by knowing that I will run into issues. When I do, I give it a solid attempt, but after a certain amount of time I either take a break or work on something else.

You will always hit issues, when you do, what you do and the frame of mind at which you perceive the issue is what will continue to motivate you.

Sure. Develop it solo, then submit it. I am doing it solo. I code in teams regularly, but have never made a game with a team.

You can. As long as you have the right to use it and distribute it. I think submitting it to the Game jam legally counts as distributing it. There is a great FAQs and asset section where some free assets are listed.

FAQ: another FAQ( I like this one better)

The assets I mentioned: free!

I believe you can make it on which ever platform you want. Based off the FAQs, it doesn't even have to be a video game.

  • Can I make a tabletop, card, or analog game?

Yes! Jammers have made these games before and itch.io is very open to different game media!

  • Can I make a mobile game?

Mobile games are tricky to distribute through itch.io but we won’t discourage you from submitting them! At the moment, iOS can only be distributed through the app store. You can, however, upload Android application packages.
