I put the race theme up on Newgrounds a while back :)
This is a really clever idea! I quite liked the space theme, and the way the ship flies off when you clear a round. It'd be nice if the stuff between the rounds was a bit faster, or skippable. The 3 count feels like it takes forever after your second or third fail, and while neat, the ship animation as it sets up to leave the scene feels like it drags a bit.

As for how it's done, it's a pretty straightforward brute forced solution. In essence, the map is a series of columns, with a full height and grass height. During the final frame of the full sized explosions, we do some circle math to figure out how much to remove from each column.
The map is generated by breaking the full playarea width apart into some random number of segments, setting key points for each segment and lerping between them. Little depressions of flat land are added after the map is generated for each of the tanks, by modifying the heightmap directly under them. And that's it!
I really liked the concept of this game, and am pleased to see someone else using a flashlight as an obstacle! Visually and aurally very well done. The mechanics are on the right path. Not having air control makes landing on swift moving platforms somewhat difficult, though with time and practise it's totally doable. I think the most jarring thing though is the hard camera flip when you change directions.
You have the seed of an excellent game here, and with a bit of polish this will really shine!
