My current idea is a simple "explore an open level and vibe" game - where your character, [insert thing here], lives a very short lifespan.  After a bit it poofs into nothing and leaves behind a new character for you to control that is slightly improved from your previous one.  The improvements are partially random, but are mainly affected by your actions - what you eat etc.  The main thing im debating is W H A T the character is.  As much as I'd like to make what I want, ik itll better if I make something other people will :00000 over.

Ideas for the evolving lil character:  Adventurers, Cells, Lizards, Demons, Ghosts, Bugs, Slimes, Frogs?? idk.  Gimme your input plz <3333

*shrug* superbowl all day yesterday - now time to work.  les drink caffeine and esketit

I did my best to balance work and dev and I was right on track but I caught the flu really badly this week and it set me back.  I'm a perfectionist and ik dates are arbitrary so I will definitely take the 3 days I missed later to finish my project, but I can't help but feel bad that I'm gonna miss the official submission process.

Kindof a deck builder or character builder? Where you choose items for your character from the gas station then do a bossrush

Here my train of thought for the jam so far.

For me gas stations are either transactional - buying gas, or its me wandering around the aisles at 2am trying to get snacks when I get off work late.  I was thinking of making a liminal gas station area - where you enter a little gas station but its infinite aisles and drink fridges, but I couldnt get a good idea for gameplay.  I considered some sort of tycoon style game where you have a farm of dinosaurs to make more oil (Cause oil is just old carbon goo).  I considered the tried and true action roguelike - but felt like the gas station was too small to make a good level that seemed like a realistic gas station.  Maybe something with seagulls?  or a horror game? idk.

I think I have a pretty good idea blocked out now.  Don't want to give it all away but it's based around that feeling of browsing a gas station in the late hours - not really sure what you want - trying to find the right combination of items: snacks, drinks, gum, or random junk.

:0 everytime you look at the prices they gooooo up

if its about a gas station i assume so

In books and literature, autumn symbolizes beauty, sadness, maturity, change, and the beginning of the end - so if your location is seasonless - you can always incorporate some of those themes and maybe one or two random pumpkins

so there's alot of interesting themes to work with if you want to do something besides - orange leaf

In books autumn often symbolizes change, maturity, beauty, sadness, and the beginning of the end

could be set in an area with beautiful orange leaves, or incorporate pumpkins, spooky halloween skeletons, themes of autumn?

its a fairly vague theme that you can use to make whatever your creative mind comes up with :D

Hey! Good luck with your project - I believe in you!

To answer your question - yes 3d is okay.  Any type of graphics style you want to use (as long as its appropriate XD) .  The color pallet is optional and even with 3d art you can use those colors to inspire your art.  For example, if you are 3d modeling some leaves or trees you can use the green colors from the pallet as the base color for the model.  You can always use other colors - the pallet is there to be a jumping off point <3

they look just like viruses XD

Really liked the art! Great entry, I had fun playing it!

Really fun game! A little difficult to aim and tell where bullets are going to come from (player/enemy), but I really like the concept!

Really enjoyed the gun creation mechanic, but you cant really aim the gun at all - and REWIND-ing isnt really important to the game.  Overall good entry.  I had alot of fun playing it.

Not as bad as I thought it was going to be!  I had a lot of fun and I really liked your title screen animation.

Good choice of artist for the music.  The game is fun, but I'm not sure how useful the rewind mechanic is.  (I never really had to use it, except to retry a jump)  Overall good entry for the gamejam! (There are like a million platformers)

Fucking loved this game! The art and music and everything was incredible.  The camera was a but clunky for navigation and sometimes there would be no-win scenarios (the ninjas walking off the roof before you could fight them), but overall the game was really fun to play!

Fun, simple, polished game! The hitboxes were a bit iffy, but the game was amazing to play!

Clean graphics.  A fun/simple game.  The jump is a little difficult to use, but overall its great! :D

Whenever I try to download and run this game, Norton says its not safe and windows shows an error about access paths.  idk

thx so much! Yeah 😅 it's difficult to keep the screen empty

I'm not usually a big fan of platforming games - especially for game jams - but this game was incredible.  Polished beyond belief.  GREAT JOB!

Fun and polished! Reminds me alot of those little toy cars that wind up by going backwards.  Very enjoyable!  PS: Were those little red yellow orbs that hurt you supposed to be coronavirus XD?

I really enjoyed the graphics! I had a little trouble understanding the goal/plot of the game as well as how it fits with the "rewind" theme, but I had alot of fun.  ESPECIALLY when I found out that the goblin could infinitely jump and just fly around!

This might just be the webgl build but I had some trouble with the movement. The character would move specific distances and then when you rewinded you could accidentally shove the other character and mess up puzzle.

Besides that I thought it was a cute and fun puzzle game :D

There actually are invulnerability frames on hit.  You cant take damage while either attacking or recoiling from an attack.  So if you miss and attack you'll take damage, but otherwise you should bounce off and be relatively ok.  thanks for feedback.  Also the snakes arent random.  The blue one always is truthful.

(1 edit)

The color of his glowing eye is the color that hurts.  Also you don't need to get close, you can hit him with your slash fine from either gaps or just from the second ring.  Once again, I appreciate your feedback

Hey OP your game looks cool! Please rate my game! https://itch.io/jam/cgj/rate/477172

I did this by myself while juggling my first week of classes back at college.

It was really fun to make the characters look crazy for boss battles

I just used photoshop to make a bunch of pieces and used the unity animation stuff to rig things together.  It gives the game a decent enough look and makes animations easier than frame by frame.  I just tried to keep a consistent line width

I learned alot about the unity post processing stack this gamejam.  As well as how to make cutscenes with the timeline animation thingy.  I made cool intro and outro animations after you defeat a boss / enter a new scene.  I also learned alot more about art and animation!
