I want to speedrun games

Hello everyone,

I'm going to start a YouTube channel where I upload videos of speedruns of jam games. If you want me to speedrun your game or other games in the jam you like, your suggestions are welcome! I might not be able to play them all if there are too many so I will only choose the games I find the most interesting to speedrun. Speedrunning a game actually takes a lot of time!

I already uploaded the speedrun of the game Gadget Heist on my YouTube channel:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpal5V-jjRKN3w56VWKfvxw

Also, feel free to check out and rate my submission.
https://itch.io/jam/acerola-jam-0/rate/2567047

I recommend you play the updated version, which is easier and less confusing (the original version is still fine, so pick the one you want):

My game is kind of made for speedrunning, so you could play that!

https://itch.io/jam/acerola-jam-0/rate/2582188

I’ll get to yours relatively soon

(random tip though: you should rename your channel to something more unique other then “Game Jam Speedruns” with slightly incorrect grammar if you want your videos to be spread around a bit more, maybe something like “GJRuns” or just your itch profile name would work)

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't really want my channel to gain popularity. I just speedrun for fun and I was thinking it would make game creators happy to have a video of someone playing the game.

I choked a little bit at the end but I still think it's a good run :)

(08:35 on the timer at the end)

Well, you are in luck since my game has a timer for speedrunners. Feel free to try (point being try, my game is hard).

I'm sorry but I think I will skip your game for now. I actually tried for a few hours but I couldn't beat the game! More feedbacks on your game page :)

Its okay. And good to know that it seems like I really made it way too hard. Thanks for letting me know!

It took me way too long to get used to the gameplay, but I finally did it in 5:04.15!
I have no idea if it's a good time, but that's good enough for me!

Submitted

Yay! You did it! Thats amazing! Its good time and Im sure no-one else has done better considering I doubt anyone else has even made it to the end xd Good work! :)

Submitted

I was able to get a sub 7 min, can you do better?

Thank you very much for sharing. I was looking forward to playing your game but unfortunately my laptop isn't powerful enough to run it.

sorry about that

Are you able beat my record? https://itch.io/jam/acerola-jam-0/rate/2579672?after=20#post-9628523 , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XK2hZN5FpzU >:)

There isn't much to optimize in a speedrun of the game. I still found a little shortcut at the end :p

Submitted

Wow, good job! Never saw that hole there that'll let ya shortcut through

I think the avarage playthrough time in my game is only 15 minutes, could be fun to see someone speedrunning it :D

I know it's not the intended solution, but speedrunning is also about taking advantage of the glitches in the game :)

My game is a platformer with quite a few cool movement tech, has nice speedrunning potential.

Submitted(+1)

A really fun game to speedrun. Thank you for the suggestion!

Submitted

Oh my god these optimizations were insane!!! I was so confused watching you bomb the goal from offscreen, I wasn't understanding until the message popped up, very cool!!

Submitted(+1)

Could you please give it a try? Thanks.

Who needs keys when you can pass through walls?
It could be optimized by doing the door skip faster but it's good enough for me. I took the liberty of starting a run at the beginning of the level with a few keys already obtained so as not to have to restart the game each time. Anyway, it makes no difference to the final time as I don't use the keys.

Here is the run in 2:33

HAHA, thats an interesting bug. Gotta be careful next time.

Thanks for the speed run..

Hi man! Would be nice for you to speedrun my game! As of right now I doubt anyone has actually finished it (I’ve been told its a bit tough), but seeing your gamer skills it should be no sweat for you :)

It wasn't that hard!

I think the speedrun could be improved a bit, but some parts feel very luck-base, especially the boss fight. So I'll settle for this run :)

Submitted(+1)

I've managed to get a sub 1 minute time in my game, but it's pretty tough. There's an in-game timer for speedrunning, please try it out :)

https://itch.io/jam/acerola-jam-0/rate/2573654

I got a time of 51.42. Sub 50 is definitely possible, but some parts are really difficult to get consistent at, especially in the last level. Very nice game and very fun to speedrun!

Submitted(+1)

Would love to see what time you could get in my rogue like submission.

I don't know if there's an end to the game. I'll consider the game beaten when I beat the first boss.

Submitted

Here is my speerun of the game (up to the first boss). Maybe I could have used more attacks to move forward but rooms are small so it doesn't make too much of a difference.

Submitted(+1)

i made mine with speedrunning in mind, there's even a speedrun.com page with categories and stuff, check it out!

Maybe I will try the other categories later.
Here is my run on the first level. It should be a new WR :)

my best time was 5"56

I got a very good time of 4:53 on my first run and it took me a very long time to get a better time. Eventually, I got extremely lucky in the last room and I beat the game in 4:40 :)

Submitted

Ur a beast! loved watching u do the slime strats lmao the last hit was insane, when i make an updated version of the game i think im gonna add a dive mechanic that can make general movement for speedrunning more engaging and help avoid close calls with sharks

Submitted(+1)

I didn’t make my game specifically for speed running but when I was testing it and had to race through it to see if it even worked it was really fun. You can play it here https://itch.io/jam/acerola-jam-0/rate/2583062

Also I’ve seen the videos you’ve been posting in the discord and they’re really fun to watch. I may be a little too excited about an all games % lol

Submitted

Very cool game but I'm terrible at it! Sorry, but I'm not going to make a run on your game because I'm very bad at this type of game and I don't think there's enough speedrunning strats for me to be interested in spending more time on it.

Submitted(+1)

The score system in my game is effectively a speedrun timer + precision stats. Which is why most players end up with a negative score because the baseline is an average of my runs which are "perfect" and also under 3 mins.
https://itch.io/jam/acerola-jam-0/rate/2581699

Being a primarily precision based 3D platformer with movement acceleration and some skips I used in playtesting it should be fun to speedrun.

Here's the scoring system code for reference as well
"Score = ((200000 - [time in ms]) + (300000 / [Times the anchor is placed]) + (-1000 * [how many times you've fallen off the map])) + 100000"

Submitted(+1)

The time in the title of the video is RTA. If I use the score to calculate the time, it gives me an in-game time of 1:40.

This seems cool! My game is a small Action RPG but there's definitely optimization to be put in it. haven't completed a full speedrun of it but there is some incredibly powerful strats in there to beat the final boss fast. if you feel like it, here it is (also it prolly is like a 15 min speedrun so you can skim past it if you feel like its too long :)): https://2ndflame.itch.io/seemingly-alright

Edit: just rated your game, it was pretty fun!

I couldn't find a powerful strategy for beating the boss quickly, or at least I didn't think unlocking abilities was worth the time, so I pounced on the boss and finished the game in 10:38. For some reason, OBS didn't record the first 5 seconds of the race, but I started the timer as soon as I pressed play on the title screen. I've written a (far too long) list of feedbacks on your game page :)

Submitted

Yep, replied to the entire thing (in detail)! Thanks yet again for the feedback. Very useful knowledge :) I also left some feedback on your game too, hope it's useful!
