Without sounding too corny, I sure feel even better knowing I got people excited to actually start doing stuff with this jam :D
It's easy to feel like it's not worth the time and just reading this makes me feel like it was, actually, worth it, ahah
(but also yeah I'm starting to be better today, thanks!)

Curious about what to do (or not do) for a post mortem? Here's some rough idea of what you could do!
This used to be a twitter thread, but considering the state of Twitter, might as well copy this here:
A post mortem, to put it simply, is a document meant to list what you've learned through a project. Usually, it follows a simple structure of "What went right / What went wrong / What to fix or improve next time".
Now, I'm not your mom nor your teacher, but I really recommend writing something! It's not only gonna help you digest your month, process what you've (consciously or not!) learned, but also allow you to share with others so they can learn from your own experiences. You don't have to necessarily focus on the project itself - the goal is not to explain how you found the one line of code that fixed your collision system, but rather explain the process of how you found solutions to a problem.
It doesn't have to be all negative either, make sure to talk about things that went better than expected, and what you did to make it happen!
In the context of Devtober, I think it'd be more interesting to talk about the various mental hurdles you've had to go through. The whole goal is to build up a routine and work every day - and if you can, help others achieve that. So sharing whatever obstacles you ran into, and how you went over them, or what tricks helped you manage everything, that's what matter, you know?
And the final advice I'd have for now: keep it short and interesting. Don't think too much about the trivial and the one-time things, and instead dig deeper on what could be relatable or reoccuring issues.
Format doesn't matter, by the way! You can make an itch io devlog, a googledoc page, or upload a video, that's entirely up to you. And it's your learning process, so focus on what you wanted and have learned.
We'll see you on the other side on november 1st.~
You don't have to!
It's encouraged - I do think having that external commitment is a good source of motivation - even if it's unknown faces that mostly won't acknowledge it, it tends to push you toward not disappointing people.
But some people in the past have found that counterproductive too, as they found themselves focusing too much on making something that'd look good on social media, and not enough on some longer features their games needed.
Bottom line - it's your decision, and probably depends a lot on your overall goals. But don't let pressure or fear of result make the decision for you :)
It's definitely doable, I've seen people go as high as clearing it with 30 seconds to spare :D You can do it!
As far as I remember (it's been years, sorry, ahah), there's one item that can go under the bed, but the nightstand also work for that one;
I think the closet was meant to be a "catch all" - you can put anything in there and it won't result in a penalty, but you also won't be able to get max score if you use it... Not all places are meant to be used to their fullest, anyway. Gotta have some misleading things to mess with y'all. ;)
Hello to all of you!
It's the last day, for most of us, and you're probably thinking about writing your post mortem by now.
(And if you're not, you should be ;p)
I've written some thoughts and guidelines over at our twitter account:

Feel free to check it out.
Good luck to all of you, and huge congratulations for making it through the month!
And if you didn't make it through.. hey, who cares! Congratulations for trying. Hopefully everyone learned something, one way or another. :)
It's been years, but if the pizza box is half empty (and not fully empty) it should go in the fridge... so do pizza slices and leftover chinese.
That being said, if you finished the game once, maybe you noticed there's a secret trash can hidden somewhere! As far as I remember, the trash is always considered as the right place, it's a wild card spot
