Awesome! Please send a link of your project once it's finished! :)

Thank you :)

Fun game! My biggest improvement suggestion is adding something other than right mouse click to shoot (I have a laptop without mouse and right clicking is really hard, I usually use control-click as a right click, but that didn't work in your game for some reason).

Other than that, the small text looks a bit blurry at first (though I guess it's just a glow, but I would probably prefer it without glow). Also agree with some other commenter on the player movement feeling a bit floaty.

I really like the "go over there to start the game" mechanic as well as the particle effects and how you explained everything with some strategic text in the first level.

Took me a while to understand what I had to do/what was an enemy and what was a friendly bear, making that a bit clearer would be good. Was also never a big fan of that you-shoot-where-you-look mechanic, but that may just be me :P

I like the music, sounds and juice the game had (like the screen shake).

One tiny thing regarding controls: using the arrow keys moves the page up or down for me (except when in fullscreen)

Agreed with the other commenters that it's a bit too hard/enemy bullets are too fast, but otherwise fun little asteroid shooter!

Pretty hard but in a fun way, first I fell down and then i got stuck in my magnetized stuff and then the trap magnets really got me.

Making everything a bit bigger/closer and a fullscreen option would be nice.

Loved the "YOU WIN" physics, sooo satisfying. Agreed that the controls could be a bit more intuitive, but interesting and nice looking puzzler

Awesome game! Jamming to the lofi hip hop christmas music, fun to play and the size mechanic with the "vampire survivor" style game works really well!

Really hard to find improvements for, maybe at the end an endless level with points could be fun.

The vibe: 🎄🎁🎉

The game: 🔪🔥☠️

That looked very simple on first glance but turned out to be surprisingly hard!

Really creative interpretation of the theme.

What I would love as improvements:

- some big "well done" or something when you finish a level instead of just the sound

- option to turn on fullscreen (i was squinting at my screen really hard)

- different color palettes for the different levels would be awesome too

Ah and great job with the onscreen instructions and arrows, really liked those!

Enjoyable game and great execution on the theme!

What I would love:

- death animation (preferably with lots of blood that sticks on the obstacles)

- moving the camera slightly in the direction im facing so that i can see a bit further

- a button that "clicks" on the next box (though that changes the puzzle mechanics quite a bit)

Thank you for the feedback, changing the background somehow as you evolve is on our todo list, the death animation is there it's just very subtle (random half-transparent spheres are spawned when an organism dies) we'll have to figure out how to make that more visible.

For speed we were planning to have a slowly recharging boost that you can use (should make it a bit more challenging as well).

The heart attack is on purpose ;)

Thank you, yeah I'm playing like that too :)

Thanks, yeah initially we planed to have water -> land -> sky -> space and the end goal is to eat the galaxy or something like that, obviously a tiny bit too ambitious for a four day jam ;) but we'll update for sure

Very fun, love the editing functionality! Had a really monstrous organism in the end :D

Fun game, creative twist on a old-but-gold classic. Really liked the style too!

Agreed on the closer camera, for me it seemed like less than half of the screen was filled, I was also a bit confused by the scoring system (is 50/50 the amount of mistakes/falling blocks i can make before I lose?)

Very satisfying, also seemed very well balanced, my timers always seemed to finish in just the nick of time, a few more seconds and I would've been dead. Slightly panic inducing :D (though it took me a while to get that I could place walls, maybe would've easier otherwise) .

as for improvements, my main wish would be placing walls with a keypress (without a mouse right button click is just very hard).

Thank you, i wasn't sure beforehand if something agar.io like would even be fun to play without multiplayer, but pretty happy with the result (though it's more a chill game compared to agar.io)

Fun little platformer, didn't really get how the size mattered (did I automatically change size when i moved?) but the general mechanics are solid and enjoyable.

one small thing: the music is very loud lost some of my hearing for a second there :)

Fun game, made it to almost 2000 meters!

Some things I think would make it even better:

- it was pretty hard to see the difference between background objects and objects you should avoid sometimes, maybe make all background assets grey?

- some more variance would be great, eg slopes that sometimes are more or less steep

works for me

Thank you, great to hear you enjoyed it :)

Thanks for playing, we're definitely planning to expand this game. We originally planned to have ocean -> land -> sky -> space progression with multiple different animals for each stage (plus a builder/customizer like in spore).

Haha very true, gonna have to ship an update with that very soon! Thanks for playing and reviewing :)

thank you :)

thank you!

thanks for your feedback, subtitles have been added, they just lag slightly behind the voiceover ^^

thank you! awesome that you enjoyed it and played it till the end!

thank you for your feedback, we made the hitboxes bigger, should be a bit easier now :)

making latter generations faster is a bit more difficult, as otherwise you can't escape from the bigger ones anymore, still have to figure out a way for that to work (maybe have a short rechargeable speed boost?)

do you mean broken, because you can't play again or is something else not working?

thank you, yeah the collisions are very handwaivy, close-enough-ish :)

thanks for playing!

yeah, making the AI a tiny bit smarter than just "floating around until i see some food nearby" is on our list of improvements.

what kind of narrator dialogue would you want between levels?

Thanks for playing :)

thanks for your review!

yeah, it was inspired by that argonaut video, and we even adapted and used some of his code, we should probably add him to the credits.

adding the narrator to all stages is on the to-do list and we'll take a look at mouse controls too.

Hi everyone,

i've made a fun and casual top-down, roguelike shoot 'em up with shadow elements and colorful neon effects for the 2024 piratejam (with the theme "shadows and alchemy").

Made with typescript, vite, pixijs and rapier2d. You can check out the code on github.

Happy for any feedback, play the game here: https://flo-bit.itch.io/shadow-shmup
