This would be a very fitting entry for metroid vania month 😋

Amazing game, especially given the time frame! The graphics are beyond beatiful, I personally like the music and it's fitting to the games presentation.

Again, this game is suberly well made, which is why I would like to give some picky feedback. With a few tweeks you can easily extend this into something amazing!

  • Movement could be snappier. With pixel games like this, movement is usually "snappy", it seems like you are using physics-based movement, so the character is "sliding" a bit. Also, personally I feel like the gravity value is too high. But that needs to be in sync with the rest of the game of course.
  • Particles on respawn go crazy, they should calm down a bit
  • Writing can be improved

All the best!

Who knew the Yakuza were part of Evilcrop all along...

Putting it blantly I would be surprised if you didn't win the jam! 🥰

Amazing game idea, funny mechanics, look and fell is good. Checks out. Music is fitting.

Ran into some glitches if that is of any importance to you:

  • On the second blue-paint level I got teleported to another level without finishing it
  • If you strike into the top left corner, you glitch outside of the level. Speed run strats right there

You can be proud!

Hi!

Yes WebGL version would make it a lot easier for people to just play and rate your game. You can fix the issues you ran into by going to Project Settings -> Player Settings -> Publishing Settings and on the WebGL tab set "Compression" to "none".

I beat the game! After the water section there was another "press E" part, where I should have probably changed according to the environment. Instead, I got glitched into the ground. Somehow, I managed to get out, lost my eyes in the process and finished the jumping section. Had a blast.

Was a fun experience

An options menu? IN A GAME JAM GAME? Never seen before!

The graphics are awesome obviously! Music seems fitting, I like it.

At character selection you display the keys for the US layout of keyboards. It's probably horribly difficult to implement, but it's confusing to have to press Z when your keyboard has a differnet layout and the button is actually mapped to A. Maybe allowing clicking for selection would be an easy work around.

I feel like this game would easily turn into something completely amazing if only two things changed

  • Character movement - you are probably using a physics based controller? Jump height feels odd to me, so does gravitational force and also movement in general. I would suggest switching from using a physics engine for moving to directly modifying the position of the sprite for snappy movement. You can also tweek gravity and other stuff this way.
  • Feedback - especially when getting hit, but also for jumping and landing

Awesome work!

Green and yellow now also have their own benefits, also there is a score and increasing difficulty now 😊

Thanks a lot for your suggestions!

Game feel and tutorial didn't make the cut, it will be fun thinking about what feedback makes sense for what - looking forward to that.

I have updated the game a few minutes ago, now there is an actual score and increasing difficult - and more buffs!

All the best 😊

Just released an update - now there is increasing difficulty. So the game ends if you can't keep up!

Also all the different fruits have a different buff effect now. 😊

Not anymore! The recent update made it a real race to get a good score! 😊

I could have sworn that was intentional 😂

Red dots increase movement speed, the rest don't do anything yet sadly. Thanks for playing

Yes, also a score board would have helped. A lot didn't make it in sadly. Thanks for the kind words

Cool, I liked the 3d pixel art. While the descrition "lets you jump like a chad" is cool, it would have helped to know it's a wall jump 😋

I think changing the sounds from the chiptune ones would be an important step, since it does not fit the graphic style you chose well.

Highscore holder for sure

Good take on the environment changes you. Cool that you managed to deliver an actual finished game.

I also feel like a softer music could help.

Healthy happy plant 👍

No worries, didn't take it as one 😋

Hi!

No, but both games use the same free asset: https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/2d/characters/pixel-adventure-1-155360

I linked that on the jam submission page but forgot it on the game page here. Added it now, thanks for reminding me!

We actually had mouse controls first, but that seemed even less interactive (and fun) then having a character *gently placing* them on the map. You can opt to gently tap the spacebar instead of mashing it though! *Or a controller might also work*

Thanks, I will see if I can think of a way to expand it

Thank you!

Thanks, music rarely makes the cut ~

Thanks

Thanks, we got a whole narrative for it too. But that was never gonna make it in in time 🤣

Thanks! It closes itself if the hero reaches the castle. The "you lose" screen didn't make it in 🤣

Thanks, scope got us a little. We had a lot of ideas but they didn't make the cut.

Thanks!

Yes actually there are two ways.

Losing (not killing the Hero in time) and using Alt + F4 ☺️

Very cool. Loved the music. I love pixel art so that's not a hard box to tick.

Losing your progress when hitting restart is not cool, but that feature probably didn't make it in because of time.

But in any case, losing progress is annoying and should be avoided

The music fits the game perfectly. Made it a lot more enjoyable.

I'm an engineer so I can relate to being the one dude who has to fix everything (at the same time [yesterday]). The fact that you ultimately fail anyways, because it is impossible to be that person who fixes everything is a cool touch.

My high score:

Sadly not as easy as I had wished. There will be a controller update in the future, I will make sure to include a mac version then!

Hey,

we used your asset for our game: https://htastic.itch.io/dino-duo
Thanks for sharing, we linked you in the credits section of the page and also at the credits at the end of the game.

Thought maybe you are interested in seeing projects that use your assets.

It was a pleasure to work with them and I will keep using them in future projects where appropriate.

Feel free to delete the post if I'm cluttering your board. No offense taken.
