Oh, it only happens on the "Victory" celebration! Forgot to correct myself.

Hi there! No glitches or issues this time, I just wanted to drop some ideas for future releases (or for independent theme-makers out there) while I had them in my head. Loving the program! :)
- I'd love to see some more green/cottagecorey palettes for the themes! You know, themes that would fit in with the Waterfall background. Maybe a theme styled like an arbor or something? Green and white, green and brown, kind of those softer earthier color palettes.
- A summer night ambience (crickets/frogs), or a night-in-the-woods sort of soundscape. A gentle misting rain in a jungle sounds really soothing, too, if you can find a sound like that. That may be what the below commenter means.
- Seasonal backgrounds/seasonal themes sound really cute! I love playing those wintertime ambience videos where it's just a feed of a snowy pond or whatever. I had my girlfriend program a Garry's Mod map where I just walked up on top of a snowy hill and wrote for a while and listened to the atmosphere.
- Maybe seasonal in a "festive" sense. I'm total trash for Halloween-themed/hollydays-themed/Valentine's ambience. I think the pressure would be to put these out "on time", though, which might be too much of a hassle for too little reward? I would buy it, though.
- Something involving trains. Not sure what. I just love RailCowGirl's Youtube channel and I think writing on a train sounds real cozy. This might be way harder to get a background for, though, haha.
- Cottagey stuff in general would be fun.
- A typewriter theme.
Oh, I misread! The placement is working, then, and I'm a silly bean.
Remembering the placement is... gosh, that's a tough call. It's probably better the way you did it? The idea of it hopping around every time you reduce windows isn't super ideal, and the current issue really isn't that big a deal. I don't reduce windows much anyways. You probably made the right call, unless it's possible for the notes to conveniently "scale" their location, which is probably unreasonable.
Oh my gosh, this is literally going to be SO helpful for when I want to take quick notes on what's coming next in the story, or things to go back and fix later. I do notice the stickynotes thing is on the bottom-left side even if emojis are on the right-hand side, at least for me. Not a huge issue, but it doesn't sound like it's intended.
I do also notice it can bug out if I have it on fullscreen and then make the browser small. Not a huge issue, since I can just re-fullscreen and move it. My other very very minor complaint is that it's hard to find a spot where I can drag the note around if the note is small. But I can just make the notes bigger.
Overall, a really helpful little addition and well worth the money! My one real complaint is that I already finished my writing for today, so I won't get to try these out until tomorrow! XD
Hi! I love all the new changes, but I wanted to let you know about a problem I've been having as an Ubuntu user. So, in Ubuntu, I have to make the .desktop file manually to add a shortcut to my Applications list (thanks, itch), but because the name of the executable changes on every version, I have to go in and change the .desktop file manually every time. This means that every time there's an update, my shortcut stops working for a bit. Is there a way the executable filename could go unchanged, or does that just not workable with itch?
[EDIT: Updated the script below to the new version of Stimuwrite, which, according to Eve, will no longer change names going forward. Hooray!]
Also, if anyone also on Ubuntu wants to know how to do what I'm doing, since I had to teach myself: Find your Applications folder; it should be full of .desktop files. Create a new text file and copy-paste this in, modifying the locations and stuff accordingly (unless your name on your computer is also "Imogen" and you also put all your important files in a stupid folder called "Pathways", in which case this'll be super easy for you). Make sure the Exec shows the updated filename.
If you like, download a Stimuwrite icon to input for the Icon section, or just delete that row! I think half of these rows are redundant, but I don't wanna mess with it.
Save the file as stimuwrite.desktop. It may take a little bit to show up, and you might have to open the Applications program to double-check, but I think it should work?
[Desktop Entry] Name=Stimuwrite Exec=/home/imogen/.config/itch/apps/stimuwrite/stimuwrite.x86_64 Type=Application Icon=/home/imogen/Downloads/Pathways/stimuwrite.jpeg Categories=Game Terminal=false StartUpNotify=false Comment= NoDisplay=false
I just spent a half-hour unraveling this only to realize it was a) totally irrelevant as a "bug", b) too long to post the full stupid saga. But I'll share the answer, because it's funny to me.
Basically, the Courier Prime font on Stimuwrite does a weird-looking apostrophe if the apostrophe happens to fall in a certain part close to the center of the page.
Spot the haunted column.
It's mechanically the same symbol in any other program, so it's not an issue at all. It's just so weird.
Something I've noticed is that a lot of the program's features--like the em-dashes and the wordcount tracker--stop working if you're not writing at the end of the document. If you write two pages, then realize you had more to add at the end of page one, the wordcount won't update until you type something down there. IDK if that's your issue!
Oh, I think I have a vague request for backgrounds/themes, if you're looking for any direction on it. I really like the kind of fuzzy, sluggish feel of the Sunset theme. It feels very soft and non-distracting. I think landscapes work really well, and so do the warm, non-abrasive colors and simplistic views. A lot of the animated backgrounds have a lot of "information"--faces, fish, TV static, mushrooms growing and dying. The fuzzy/pixelly quality, coupled with being mostly silhouette (and so very short on details), really works for me.
A warm color scheme is also great for latenight writing, for what it's worth. It's why I mostly only use Fireplace and Sunset (and Waterfall, which admittedly breaks the pattern). I'm sure it's hard to make/acquire these, though! This is just one user's thoughts.
This is a very accurate name for the pack. The Soil one is so interesting! It grosses me out too much to, like, use it, but I'll bet it'd be a great mood-setter for writing a creepy horror novel. I think I like it as long as I turn off the progress bar and use a different background--it goes really nicely with Waterfall, and so does the Cloudy theme!
Oh, gosh, this is perfect! Thank you so much! I hate to always be coming here with problems and requests, because this app by-and-large is just fantastic for my productivity. Now I can finally combine the pixel hearts with the Sunset Theme! ^^
EDIT: oh my gosh it looks so GOOD, I'm thrilled with this update.
The main bug I'm finding is that choosing custom emojis instantly breaks the normal emoji selection. If I have the Vaporwave theme selected with default emojis, or any non-default emoji set selected, and then I enable custom emojis, it instantly resets to default. Turning off custom emojis does not fix this; I have to restart the program in order to get anything other than Default Hearts, or a mix of Default Hearts and my own custom emojis.
That on its own is an obvious bug, but my biggest issue is that it means I can't really pick and choose with the standard arrays. I can't open the Vaporwave theme to get the pixel heart, then add in a trans Minecraft bee as a party emoji--it'll just become default hearts + trans bee. Like I said, I really like the emoji sets, I just want to replace a couple emojis in each set that I don't like! So that's a problem.
EDIT: This bug seems to trigger from opening the Display Customization interface at all. I opened it to hide the progress bar and then had to restart the program to get the fire-themed emojis back.
EDIT x2: Actually, I'm getting inconsistent results with this bug. I just managed to get rid of it just by changing the emoji set, but I swear that didn't work earlier. Sorry, I wish my data were more helpful!
Getting more into the realm of "request" than "issue", I think my ideal would be like, a row of dropdown menus where you choose from all the normal emojis on offer (including the vaporwave emojis), and if you want, you can pick "custom" and mix your own with the standard options. That way, I could just pick a heart emoji, a vaporwave heart emoji, a mushroom, a flower, and a custom trans heart or whatever. That sort of thing. I really do like most of the standard emoji sets, and having to reverse engineer them is a bit of a pain! I also love the pixel hearts, but I'm not huge on the Vaporwave theme itself
That being said, the above idea sounds like potentially a huge hassle, and I'm happy with what we got! I just gotta track down my own pixel heart somewhere.
I know this may feel like trying to please a crowd that can't make up its mind what it wants, but is there a way to turn off the "auto-switch to the previous settings" setting? I saw what you said before about it being a nice ritual to re-set the theme and background manually each time, and I kind of got comfortable using it that way. X3
So far, I've adored this program. I'm such a fan of it--bought it and bought the custom themes pack, too. It's genuinely so pretty, so easy to get into the spirit, and I've hit my goal every day I've used it. I catch myself looking for excuses to use it. You did a wonderful job.
I've talked elsewhere about wishing the "secondary emojis" were more customizable, as an autistic girl with a personal discomfort around faces who very much likes a simple, pleasant, faceless setup. I swear, if an emoji pack ever releases with more emoji options and customizability, I will pay $50 on it and immediately go and write 4,000 words. That's my pledge. It would make my day.
That being said, I've been cranky enough about this one tiny silly thing. This program has wonderful sounds (big fan of the ASMR options, I'd love more expansion of the soundscape in the future, too!) and a great, simple UI. The backup feature saved my bacon last week, and everything is almost completely stable and pleasant to use. Aside from the "timer" others have requested, this program is everything I ever wished Write-or-Die could have been, and I'm going to keep using it for a long time to come. I'm going to use buying the rest of the themes as an incentive for finishing my projects.
