Really fun. Really good. Nice sounds. I cheesed to beat the game by awkwardly clicking the puzzles from indoors and luring the slimes away from the stations.

Also the desk normals look inverted.

Thanks! I tried to make the sound as satisfying as I could, since it's basically the reward for completing the mazes lol

(1 edit)

Really nice! The sound design, the art, the mechanics, the secret, it all comes together and coalesces in such a nice whole. As for the sound credits, lmao that was a lot of names, but the results of your selection speak for themselves. Oh also I really like that I keep the scroll fragments after death. If I didn't I would never have been able to collect all of them lmao

I really like that in the graveyard, you can just block one of the guards and then they stand there, eternally questioning how the rock got in the way of their specially made, personal path. It is absolutely hilarious lmao.

Nice music choice. That credits music was really long lol. I physically could not bring myself to click the return to main menu button because it just kept going lol.

Anyway, as for criticism, I suppose the guards get a little fast, and as shinadoll said already, some way to convey that the rock is blocking the guard would be nice, although that is definitely far easier said than done lmao. And as Mist has already said, a slightly faster player acceleration and slower enemy acceleration would be nice too. Wow I really am late to the party on this one. Whoops.

Overall, really nice game, and of course

Very creative game with an interesting concept. I shall not disregard creativity.

Although I can't seem to figure out how to beat the first level lmao

Image of the game with all tiles selected, but the END tile refuses to activate

It seems there's something wrong on my [END]

Woah, oops. I'll go fix that part when I have the time. Thanks for catching that!

Overall, I must say, WHAT THE!?!?!?!?! I wasn't expecting too much since you kept talking about how little time you had, but A METROIDVANIA?!?!?! Or, sorry, an "open concept platformer"? This was an incredible game, though admittedly, I would have preferred sound, but with the sheer scale of this, that may have been a rather time-consuming endeavor.

I really like the game. The levels were impeccably designed, the abilities ingenious, the art pleasing to the eye, the controls tight, the yellow area entrance's face magnificent, the ravioli exit inedible. I really enjoyed my time playing.

Criticisms? Uhhhhh, the sound I guess. Or the lack of it, at least. There was one single typo ("stamd on the platform and press S to Save!"). I also got a little stuck in the red area because I forgot about grabbing the higher jump ability after the tricky platforming section and just immediately flipped to regular gravity and jumped down to the save point, only then realizing what I had missed, and I was supposed to do, so I had to redo that whole platforming section lol. That's definitely a skill issue on my part, though perhaps a guardrail would be nice, like a single midair platform or underground part somewhere near the red area entrance for Phasing purposes. I suppose my only real criticism is really the sound, but I get sacrifices must be made for jam deadlines.

Now, if you were to expand upon this game once you're finished Super Recall, I would be eager to give it a try.
But perhaps tread carefully... I fear you may have infringed upon some of Nintendo's gameplay patents with your gravity reversal through the ground Phase ability...

Thanks! The little Mazelings are certainly grateful for your assistance

Thanks! And yeah I wasn't sure about the four pin level, buuut I figured I may as well go all the way before the jam ended lol.

And as for rotation, I did get an idea for that too... I didn't want to spend the whole jam debugging it, nor having arcs for the multi-pin levels, so I scrapped that idea and went with a limited jump instead lol.

Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed the game!

I love this game! The timing based spellcasting is ingenious, the music is so nice, the sounds fit so well, the art was very pleasing to look at, and the story was quite funny. Great interpretation of the theme, or should I say, translation of the theme? Nah that's stretching the definition of translation a bit. Oh well.

The only thing is, that one point where you ikus bah jo onto the moving platform offscreen, I'd personally prefer the platform to be a bit closer, or in a different position entirely, so you can see it when you shoot ikus bah joe, or you could even zoom the camera out, which can be done with the Camera2D's zoom property.

Anyway, other than that, I really enjoyed playing the game. A very great game, overall. Well done!

:D

The controls were a bit finicky here and there, as any jam game would be, but overall a very enjoyable game. I really liked the puzzles as well as the music. The interpretation of the theme was very nice as well. The art and shaders look well chosen and very pleasing to the eye.

The final level in particular I found to be very satisfying. It was that level where I noticed the star goes up and down with the platform, which is just such a nice little touch. I would certainly enjoy a whole full length game like this, albeit with a couple kinks ironed out here and there, like perhaps a way to highlight which side would be stretched. Maybe there's some kind of way to do it without having to go through and modify what looks to be quite a complicated shader.

Wait a minute, the credits don't seem to mention the music. Did you make it during the jam? If so, that's awesome.

SOCK GAME JAM #1 WOOHOO LETS GOOOOOOO!!!!

(1 edit)

Thank you so much, Mist! I'm very glad you enjoyed the game. I'll make sure to implement fixes for all these little things. Most of the problems came down to time, in the end, as they always do. I implemented a cooldown system for the stick, and used the same cooldown system for the fireball... without separating them lmao. As for the boss, I kind of wanted it to look more like it's opening itself up to shoot fireballs, but ran out of time for the art. And the "Reverting to the previous room every time you die" was definitely not intentional, it seems I just missed a few checkpoint spots :p

As for the upgrades, I tried to point a bit toward the upgrades menu with the "UPGRADES AVAILABLE!" text next to the pause button that appears when you have both two gems and an upgradeable weapon, but due to an unforeseen glitch, it doesn't seem to appear until after you've already paused. rip.
UPGRADES AVAILABLE!

[image showing the "UPGRADES AVAILABLE!" text next to the pause button]

And I probably should've mentioned the pause menu map showing gem locations somewhere in-game or in the description to make people look into the pause menu lol

Thanks! I'm glad the efforts of my team were well worth it

Thanks! I'm very proud of what my team was able to accomplish during this jam, and yeah, the level design refinement got a bit uneven near the ring area in particular. It was the first big 2d platformer jam game of one of the level designers, and I didn't quite have enough time to go back and refine it for optimal player experience, because I really wanted to spend the last week making the coolest boss fight ever. I'm glad to see that paid off

Extremely difficult. Truly the Dark Souls of the 2024 49er kickoff jam. Art is great, very pleasing to look at. Music is wonderful, if a bit quick to loop and repeat. I have been at this for a while, and don't think I'll be beating any levels of this game any time soon. Very nice, though.

It's Freak o'clock

Masterful writing. Wonderful twist. Very spooky. Overall great game, just doesn't scale well to my 1366x768 laptop screen lol. Furthermore, I'm amazed that absolutely everything is made out of cubes. Could it be... is this... Minecraft 3.0?

Very fun. I embezzled all funds for myself and apparently my employees didn't like that. Who'd've thought.

The minigame where you have to move the mouse through the maze seems to not quite work on my 1366x768 laptop screen, but when I messed with zooming into the webpage I eventually got a nice sweet spot where the ghost would align with the mouse (about 125%)

Ah also that pipe minigame. It took me a while to realize this wasn't the intended solution.

Aside from those, I really liked playing through all these minigames. They were hilarious and so full of Gyatt Ohio Rizz. Very well done.

I can't seem to get the controls to work on my laptop, but the game looked quite fun during the presentation

Really fun game. The mechanics are so creative and well implemented, I would enjoy a whole full length game of this. The art is so pleasant to look at, and the puzzles are so satisfying. The music is so catchy as well. This feels like such a well polished experience.

The one problem is that glitch where on the title screen, the Level Select button seems to think above it is the Settings button. Everything else about this game is nearly perfect. If I were to suggest anything, I'd just point to Mist's comment lol

Thanks!

Thanks! I tried to do as much as I could in what little time I had. I wanted to mainly work on the music and art so I'm glad you enjoyed that, but then it turned out everyone else I wanted to do the jam with was busy, so I ended up having to do everything else too. lol.

Thank you very much!

And yeahhh this game was meant to be at least a three person project, but it turned out I was the only one available to work on this, so I rushed everything as fast as I could and barely got that limb replacement unlocking system up and running. There were some more limbs set up (as you could probably imagine with the allusions to the jackhammer), but there just wasn't the time to make levels with them so they remain unused lol

Thanks!

Yeahh.... I wanted to add gameplay to the game lmao but i had to finish the story in time and really didnt do much for the game until like sunday lol, so there's exactly 1 gameplay segment, being the first half of the tutorial. I was going to start the game off with the final boss fight, where you have to manage your health and ammo and things like that, but uh... yeah I really should tone down my projects when they become too ambitious, rather than just cutting out the gameplay and the climax next time lmao.

I love this game. I finally got it to work on my computer and have been slowly chipping away at this game for while, gradually getting used to the controls and... idk maybe i have a thing for rage games, but I thought this game was very fun.

The difficulty is a bit high right at the beginning, but past the steep learning curve, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience playing the game. Gradually learning things like how to double jump as high as possible, how far you can draw out the coyote time before the initial jump, and other minor details really make the skill ceiling on this game higher than I really expected going in.

The little false path gag was a little confusing and frustrating at first, since that seemed the only way forward lol, but it's really grown on me, and I've come to really  like the way that it basically clarifies, "no, that tree was not just for decoration." While it was initially irritating, the short length of the game really enhances the experience, allowing for all kinds of experimentation, trial and error, and allowing platforming challenges to be introduced in unique ways, like that tree, without really wasting that much of the player's time lol

I DID IT!

And the art is absolute fantastic btw. I love this style.

Sorry I should've clarified in the description. I don't go to UNC Chapel Hill. I'm actually in UNC Charlotte so I'm ineligible for prizes lol i just did this for fun

This is a very nice game. I really like the music and art, and the chimeramaker6.66 menu is awesome. The only thing is, there seems to be some kind of glitch when I click the Create button in the chimeramaker6.66 menu. It just keeps adding the stats of my current selection in the Project menu every time I click the Create button, and only resets back to normal when I click the Project button. I don't know if you've caught this glitch already, but I'd just like to make sure you know about it.

But the main gameplay is very fun. I played this game for like an hour and had a blast! Great game!

Thanks! While I did submit a week before the deadline at first, that was when I just finished Chapter 0. After that, I just kept updating the game until the deadline. Lol there would have been no way for me to finish the whole game in under a week.

Thanks! I made sure to follow the jam theme as closely as I could, with thematic aberration, chromatic aberration, etc. Cube sweep!

And yeah, the fixed distance cube mechanic would probably be better suited for more of a puzzle game, and I even got a few ideas on how to add more puzzle segments during development, but I had to trim the game down to its bare parts before even considering finishing by the end of the jam lmao

cube frens?

I guess my game doesnt really need ratings, as the 54th most rated game in the jam, but i hope the nice little story of a friendly adventure brightens your day until you reach chapter 3.

i really gotta start rating more of other peoples games soon...

Thank you very much! My secret to finishing this game on time was that my university happened to have spring break that exact week during the middle of the jam, so I took that week off to utterly destroy my circadian rhythm working on this lmao.

And thanks for the complements on the story! I just feel like I could've done better, especially with one segment halfway through chapter 2 where i realized I had limited time to work on this game, so I just crammed all the exposition and explanations of absolutely everything into one rather lengthy scene. lol i requested that the judges evanmmo and duccw play cube friends on stream, and that exact section was what turned them against the game, so lets just say I'm definitely not making it into the top ten lmao

Thank you very much! I probably spent far more time bug fixing the game than doing anything else, even though I spent what probably amounted to a couple days on all the music lmao, so I'm glad my polishing efforts are appreciated, as well as that music that I may have spent more time than necessary on.

And as for the coins, I was considering adding a cosmetic shop where you could get different visual variations of the cube friends, but I basically ran out of time while making the boss fight. I even had to trim the fight down to its basic elements and rush an ending to get at least the story done in time for the end of the jam. At the moment, all getting the coins does is it changes the title screen background.

Thanks! I spent quite a while fine tuning the controls to get them just right. It was surprisingly hard to set up how to handle collisions and the mouse controls lol. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks!

Thanks!

Thanks! I tried to make this as complete of an adventure as I could

FISH AND CAT CROSSOVER WHEN

Wow this game makes me want to go
