Yeah I couldn't get the full layout done before the end of the jam so an update will have that tightened up.

I personally am attempting a new system so I’m doing my best to keep the mechanics as simplistic and streamlined as possible. But I have to balance making sure players know what to do vs space.

I totally get that, I’m definitely a function over form. What I’ve found most helpful is to get back from those who I trust and that know about form. Thankfully for me that’s tagging my fiancé in to see how much to hurts her to look at it. 😅

The challenge in that is real, honestly a lot of it comes down to layout as I found with the one pager [front only!] TTRPGs I designed for some charity livestreams. But I've found its great for forcing you to get to the heart of how to play the game AND how to best communicate that with a potential player.

Is there anything that was a block for you in finishing the game for this game jam? What obstacles did you encounter but learn from? Let us know!

Are you using an existing system? A new one? Let us know!

You can do both! I encourage people to do it in whatever medium they feel most comfortable in. If it is a physical media or tabletop game though I do ask that you make sure to have everything uploaded that someone would need in order to play it.

Thanks! I've been running one Rainbow Jam a month since the last GaymerX con so its been awhile. Participation ebbs and flows as classes and things start, but its always nice to here its a welcome thing!

Great game and loved the first playthrough. Did run into a few hiccups with the music skipping, the game seizing up, and a few typos but I'm really looking forward to another playthrough here soon. If you want to check out the one I just finished or any future ones I do you can find them on my Twitch stream channel: https://www.twitch.tv/justkaythegamer

I do really think additional routes for Vivi and Marie would be pretty awesome though and give use a chance to learn as much about them as I did with Alexei in this playthrough.

Hi I played through the demo on my Twitch channel (https://www.twitch.tv/justkaythegamer) there were a few bugs that happened during play that I'd be more then happy to do a write up of later on. But I'm assuming at some point how I spend the MCs time between ambassador, fighting and studying affects some sort of outcome or choices available? It might be best to make that more obvious or trackable in some way so that the player can have more of a informed decision on how they want their MC to be a ruler. I'd also be open to playtesting for the full game to help catch any bugs early on if needed. If nothing else I am very much looking forward to the full game!

Thank you so much for playing! We had a great time working on this game.

Hi, one and all!

So this was mentioned quickly in an email a few Jams ago and I wanted to expand on it further here. While currently, we are working hard behind the scenes to grow the Rainbow Jam community, bring more substance to you the participants, and increase participation we have lately had rather low submission numbers. It didn’t make sense to give 5 awards to a single game simply because it was the only one submitted so I called an audible and changed things up. Now instead of us awarding one of those every month, we will be moving to a yearly awards ceremony! Every time you submit a game to a Rainbow Jam this year it is automatically submitted into the list for the end of the year; this gives us time to come up with something really good to give the winners. The awards will still stay the same category-wise as they have for all previous Rainbow Jams.

We will also be giving raffle tickets out to people throughout the Jams that will then all go into a giant pot for some really cool things (we are still deciding on what, so feel free to give us input on that in the next Town Hall or through this form). You can earn these tickets a couple of ways: 1) by submitting a game [limited to one submission a Jam], 2) by giving real feedback on games that request it [limit still pending], 3) by promoting the current Jam on social media and tagging myself or the Rainbow Jam account in it [limited to one submission a jam]. Now, for the next couple of months this is still what we will consider Beta rules so they may change, but if they happen they will only change moving forward and not affect any past raffle tickets gained.

I forgot to say this earlier but really looking forward to seeing more of the game!

Yeah the laptop died right before it ended, but I have everything almost back up to speed for the game. The new demo will feature three of the animals instead of just the raven.

Submitted so its not forgotten! Will be updating with min viable game either tonight or tomorrow morning for people to start testing if they want.

There will be several updates in the next few days taking the game to its original 6 days / 7 scenes a piece possible so keep your eye out

Just a heads up! Expect at least 1 more update today to expand the game!

Thanks for playing it Owlor! The game is in progress and pretty regularly getting updated each day with more content. I'm glad someone is enjoying my brand of humor though, I was afraid it would land a bit flat <3

General 1: Your game's protagonist is a POC dealing with harassment in Trump's world by dodging text bubbles.

General 2: Your game's protagonist is a Queer child using their imagination to create a world to deal with real life problems (ie fighting a dragon may be MC facing down a bully).

RJ Challenge - Must Keep Moving 1: Your game's protagonist is a queer character dodging hate and collecting colors to set off rainbow powers, which is temp invincibility.

RJ Challenge - Must Keep Moving 2: Your game's protagonist is an animal running from a forest fire. You use the game to talk about problems facing the First Nation and loss of habitat/land through encounters and pop-ups.

It's mainly just realizing that way too many games the protagonist or MC(s) are straight, white and male simply by default and asking those participating in Rainbow Jam events to combat that with cognizant game design.

If anyone needs anything to help make sure this happens please let me know! You can easily tag me on the discord server at anytime.

I'm finishing the outline for the romance arcs of each character now but I should have an epilogue up and running for the game this weekend. If you're up for it I'd love to message or email you more details about the project!

Hey would you be up for working on a VN? I'd love to talk music needs for my jam game with you!

No worries. Music would be awesome to have for the game but we can always add it later when you are feeling better as well. Its a VN where a bee is trying to seduce the sweet sweet nectar out of flowers. So very tongue in cheek, over the top kind of humor.

Would you be up for doing music for a VN?

Yeah you can use things in the public domain and creative commons as long as you reference them in a sort of credit section where possible.

When you say CC art assets are you referring to Creative Commons...?

I'm doing a VN about a bee trying to get some of that sweet sweet honey from flowers that I'll need some pretty simple art assets for if you are interested.

If we finish one none human game would it be okay to submit a second one? I'm still seeing the 'submit game' button even though I turned in 'Steven Seagull : Owl By Herself'.

Of course! That's the whole reason why Rainbow Jam is a monthly jam. Life happens but I wanted to build a community around cretion together.

Hey there virtual neighbor! How do you like this jam? How have you liked the others? Have any thoughts, suggestions, questions, or tea to dish? Then let us know!

Welcome one and all! The whole point of these Rainbow Jams is to build a community that encourages and helps each other to build games where there is a lack of them. Ones with representation of ourselves. So in light of wanting to build that community here is the place to talk with each other, post questions if you are stuck on something, or even just talk about how hyped you. We also now have a Discord Server ( http://discord.gg/DunT8yr ) to keep the conversation going as well if you are want to do that instead.

As we are still small it will just be me, I'll bring in more judges once we reach a milestone in size. Results should only take a week maybe two depending on how many submissions we end up with

That is perfectly fine! I consider the term minority to cover ethnicity, race, religion, nerodivergency, disability, gender, etc. We still have another week on the Jam so more people will probably submit the closer we get to the end of the jam

(First bonus points for the pun, good job.)

Secondly I've tried not to be super strict on rules because I do want that creativity. If when you submit the game you can explain how it relates to the theme or the Jam or both I'll take it. A lot of things I've enjoyed playing the most have been abstract so I'm not about to shut that avenue down as long as it's with in reason

YAY! Guys we are already larger then last time, how awesome is that!!?

Oooo~ letting go sounds like a fun one

(I'll probably use alot of ! in this message so I apologize in advance)
