no.

There's going to be a theme announced, so that's probably not the best idea in my opinion.

I'd take the time right now to make sure you've got your game engine ready and workflow worked out.

Nice! I was worried there wouldn't be a theme!

Is that a sound you make with your mouth?

Seems like it to me, I dunno about you.

An absolute treat! I for one actually think the floaty controls is pretty fitting for the mechanics of this game, playing as Simon trying to save Christmas whilst being... Simon and making a ruckus.

Beautifully polished, and definitely a must-play for this jam. Well done!

A simple game, though I wish there was more challenge to it.

I-I-I-I-I...

......Whaat?

Thanks for giving it a try!

This was my first stint in a game jam working with a team so it was hard for me to manage the game design with so many visions for what we wanted. I will work to improve the general approach we take as a team moving forward.

Thank you so much!

I had intended on going into sfxr to make up some sounds but never got to it sadly.

The music was made by a buddy of mine, UnplayablePixy. I've linked his Twitter over on the game page if you wanna follow his stuff. He also does artwork on occasion.

Thanks for giving the game a try!

A very cute, relaxing game. I like it!

Pretty difficult, but satisfying little game!

Pretty funny game! I worry whether or not it's deemed too inappropriate with the tongue-in-cheek flirting, however there isn't any explicit imagery involved. Decent artstyle. My only gripe was that the choices were too obvious and I won straight away without any sort of penalties.

That Santa is cursed, but it's a nice little game overall. :)

Yeah, I recognize it. It's a shame, I'm not sure if they can accept APKs without having to use Bluestacks or something.

Unfortunately we were unable to implement everything we wanted to do for this. The gameplay we were able to come up with in the end is to keep punching people in the mall for coins to save up for each gift on the list. There is a boss round once you get all four gifts. Gifts are purchased through the side stores on the northwest wall of the corridor.

We wanted to incorporate items you can get at the kiosks in exchange for XP, some random round modifiers, etc. We may still add these updates in a separate release from the jam after the fact.

Thanks for giving the game a shot!

Why is it an APK?

Got it, I only ask because Ludum Dare has a submission period as I described, just wanted to clarify.

Thanks so much! Me and my team are looking forward to this and are hoping we get a submission done in time!

Will there be  a submission period after the Sunday deadline, say maybe an hour or so? If not that's fine I was just curious.

Probably not the best thing to do. I would only start developing the game at the start of the competition, which includes the concept.

They've said that tutorials are allowed so long as you actually follow and learn from the tutorials and try not to copy/paste code

Ah, don't worry I just wanted to express the importance of it. I wasn't trying to imply anything at all. In some jams, they'll have you post the source somewhere, but it looks like that isn't the case for this one.

You will know. The jam is supposed to be a challenge, and if you cheat at that, you're only cheating yourself imo.

In essence, they'll probably never figure it out unless it's blatantly obvious code has been ripped elsewhere. But it's ultimately up to how much respect and discipline you have for taking part in a challenge.

Yeah, that's probably not a wise idea. You're not supposed to start until the jam begins and the story may not match up with the theme once it's revealed.

All assets must be made during the jam, so I'm afraid not. Even if it was all of your code.

You can even make a webcam game if you really wanted to. Just keep in mind you want to keep the game as accessible as you possibly can to get more ratings.

The game has to be related to the theme chosen for the game jam and you must start creating the game at the beginning of the jam.

Any input is allowed. So that includes webcams.

For audio I'll definitely be using programs such as SXFR and Bosca Ceoil. Those are two great audio generators I've been experimenting with.

I believe 2D generators are fine as long as you can do what the rules say and have some control over the output it generates.

Give https://crowdforge.io/jams/cgj a shot. It'll help you get on track.

Don't let a game jam be a total measure of your skill. The only thing that will help you isn't doing a time-sensitive competition, but taking your time to familiarize yourself with the engine and code you're working with. Practice, practice some more, see if you enjoy it, then ask yourself whether you want to keep doing it.

With that said, Jams are pretty fun. Don't look at it as a competition, especially for your first one. Just think of this as an opportunity to create a finished product (Deadlines certainly help with that aspect at least, LOL)

So, assuming this is your first Jam, you have a set period of time to develop a game (in this case a week) and submit it to the site. The game must follow a theme announced at the start of the event and must be finished and submitted by at least the last day of the Jam.

Afterwards there will be a two-week play and rate period where everyone gets to rate each other's games based on criteria defined in the rules.

Programmer art is encouraged in most Jams. Focus on good gameplay and the rest will fall into place just fine.

It says quite clearly:

  • Everything has to be made during the jam. This means you can't reuse any code or assets you made before the jam or from other sources.

But generators are allowed:

  • Generators are allowed, as long as you have some control over the output.

So check into things like SFXR for sound effects. For music, I've been playing around with Bosca Ceoil too!

That's awesome! I hope you weren't wanting to send a submission before the week starts though. Everything has to be made the week of.

It says in the rules:

  • All game engines and frameworks are allowed.

Actually...
